  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

just purchased a 2013 genesis 3.8 track with 43k

car was bad squirrely on the freeway under load, but just attributed it to the fact it was wet and raining.

get home and realize it has 2 different tires on the back. 225/40/19, and a 245/40/19

now I've contacted the dealer and they are going to try and do something about it monday, however, its a 30 mile drive to them.

I've always read it's not good to have 2 different size tires on the diff, especially for long drives.

would it be bad (for the differential) to drive that far with it as is? would it be better to rotate the off tire to the front? There's no telling how long it's been this way, but the 225 looks hardly worn

Any help would be appreciated.

it isnt good for the car, but I dont think itll hurt it much either...what might have happened is the wheels might be staggered and someone might have rotated the tires one from the front and rotated to the rear.

Check the other tires and see if there are 2 sets of 2 tires that have the same sizes like 2 tires that are 225/40/19 and 2 tires 245/40/19. even though that would be kind of weird too as the tires are not the same height...I would think one would be 225/45/19 and 245/40/19.

Either way it wont hurt the car too much to drive it to the dealer as that is what a differential does is compensate for different rotational speed of the tires...but it will most definitely affect handling...just make sure you take it to the dealer asap or if they dont do anything just buy 1 tire yourself...its worth the couple hundred dollars you will spend.

I checked them, it's just the 1 tire that is off size, and its the most worn. It's like someone replace 3 of them instead of 4.

I got a local tire guy that has good prices, i may just replace that one or both rear if he has them, just for gits and shiggles.

Thanks for the prompt response.
