If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello gents,

I drive a 2015 3.8L which comes with an open differential and understand the 5.0L comes with a limited slip differential.

Has anyone here had any success installing the LSD from a 5.0L into a 3.8L? Or knows if they are compatible?

Do I have to swap the entire carrier assembly (53000-3C321) or can I just swap out the differential case (53020-3C300)?

Have you tried looking to see if Quaife makes an LSD for it?

After a quick look I believe that the 3.8l Genei Coupe shares the same diff as the 3.8 sedan. So if that is accurate (don't trust me. I don't ;P ) then Quaife makes this one QDH19B that should fit?

IF it fits I'd go quaife all day over any oem parts.

No LSD in the 5.0 buddy. It's a one wheel wonder.

Installing a limited slip diff in your car would be a complete waste of money. Maybe, just maybe you might notice a difference if you were doing power braking burnouts. (Will it even spin the tires? I've never tried.) The other 99.99% of the time, you wouldn't notice a thing.

It's a luxury sedan. Not a race car.

Gonna disagree with you buddy.

An lsd can change how a car handles slick roads, corners, uneven surfaces even when just driving miss daisy around town.

I've only added them for performance myself but I still noticed the changes in everyday driving characteristics.

Also.... Willing to bet many people here are gonna disagree that a Gennie isn't "just a luxury sedan." 😜

It is actually the other way around. The 2012 3.8 R-spec Genesis Coup has a torsen LSD unit which "may" fit a 2015 or newer Genesis 5.0 sedan model as a bolt-on upgrade due to having the same rear end gear ratio.

I have been waiting for a used 3.8 R-spec limited slip rear end to be sold on Ebay for a while now to swap it in my 2015 5.0 RWD. I need the one with the 3.54 ratio to match my current rear axle.

This ratio you speak of, is it the reduction gear ratio?

Also, I always thought the 5.0 came with an LSD!

No, the final drive ratio.

The 5.0 has an open differential and uses the traction control system to control wheel spin.
