  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have been having difficulty starting lately. This is an erratic problem. Sometimes I have to try repeatedly to start the engine. Today was different and the engine would not start despite repeated attempts. Finally I held the brake pedal down and kept trying about 15 or 20 times pressing the button and it did start. When I got home I checked the battery in key and it was good. I know if I go to the dealer it will probably start there and they will not do anything. I did hear about problems for Hyundai where the brake pedal sensor would be bad. I do not know if that is the problem for the Genesis.

Did the problem start right after your last fuel up? Could be bad gas...

Is the engine turning over or does nothing happen when you push the button?

Check if your brake lights are lit when you push the pedal down while trying to start. If not - take it in.

Check by using the smart key to press the start button (instructions in the manual). This is for a flat key battery and you said you checked this, but maybe the signal is not getting through to the start circuit at a distance.

You can also try putting the switch in the ACC position, and then pressing and holding the Start button for 10 seconds. If the car starts then (but did not start just before that), you almost certainly have a brake light switch issue. While you can start the car, get in to the dealer ASAP.

Thanks for the tips. So far the only thing I did was take apart the key and check the battery. It has been working fine since then. The battery was okay. If it happens again I will try these procedures and see if that works.
