  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anyone think it would be a good idea to have a DIY forum? It would contain threads on DIYs of all kinds. Right now there is mostly only lighting and emblem DIYs but as this car becomes more popular there will be more people doing all types of DIYs and we can only help but gain information. I personally think it would be great to have a separate forum where these DIYs can be easily accessed

Good idea - subdivided by project?

This is being discussed as I've already addressed this to Sal. We're strategizing ways to make it cleaner and easy to find. It won't be DIY but more like "Modifications" and such. It's coming soon to a forum near you :)

I think the way Sal first set it up with the technical discussions forum, with its separate sub-forums worked pretty well. The problem is it is getting a little unwieldy as we grow. Also, NOOBs often start a new thread in the wrong forum, because they just haven't found the right discussion yet. Then we have stuff in multiple places. Having some new MODs will greatly help that I think.

What I would really like to see is a separate page, controlled by the MODs, and attached to the Quick Links menu at the top of the page. On this FAVs page you could list external links to: TSBs, manuals, vendors, etc. Then this stuff would never stay lost in the various threads. Lord knows I have put a lot of stuff out there since July and sometimes I can't even find it again.

Just some thoughts. ;)

The only problem I see with leaving stuff in the technical forum is that not much going on in there is technical. I think there are quite a few people that will want to do a lot of these DIYs and if the information is in a DIY-labeled forum or sub-forum then it will be easy to find, and they wont have to search forever to find it and NOObs wont make new threads about it because all the info will be right there

BigElm is correct!

So far we see quite a few things that will go into it:

Wing mod
License plate light mod
Door Sills
Trunk Light
Footwell lights
Aiming fog and headlights.....ect...

Keep them coming and pretty soon we will have a place for them to go!!

Good ideas....we'll take them under advisement :)

Maybe we'll find it's best to blend the who ideas together for a DIY/Modifications forum.

In any event, this is what this discussion is here for. To figure out what works best for our members. As BigElm mentioned, we're discussing a new "Modifications" forum behind the scenes. GS300Rich PMd me yesterday with the idea for a "Do It Yourself" forum. Apparently, this is something on people's minds..

So let's continue to discuss this......

Okay... am I not getting it? Isn't a DIY and Modification forum go hand in hand or are we too concerned about the verbage

DIY doesnt have to mean modification. There can be DIYs on changing brake pads, things of that nature. I see what you mean though, instead of creating a whole other forum, maybe just a sub forum in the technical discussions.

All in agreement? :)

Works for me!

Yes, sounds great!

So who wants to take a shot at how the forum layout should look? Complete with subforums. :D

And do we move the entire discussions into these areas? Or do we copy the instructions only and close the topics so that they're simply instructions? ...and leave the discussions separate...

I like the idea of keeping the instructions only under a given topic. The discussion could be a single, separate subtopic. Once instructions are posed on a single topic, move it to that titled sub-topic.

Like: Under-Door Lights; Tailights; Headlight aiming; Headlight replacement;etc. That way, instructions could be found quickly, and multiple sets of differing instructions could be compared within the same sub-topic.

This all assumes that you guys can do that without creating a major hasstle for yourselves. We don't want to create a nightmare.

that is a good question. If we move all discussions in there then the actual how-to's will be lost in the mix. Maybe we should have a subforum labeled tutorials and whoever does the DIY post their thread in there, and all discussions would be done in a "discussion" forum.

I would think it would be best to separate them by interior, exterior, drivetrain, suspension/wheels/brakes,

DIY Forum
-Interior DIYs
-Exterior DIYs
-Drivetrain DIYs
-Suspension/wheels/brakes DIYs
