  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was eyeing the Key Card again and got to thinking, since the card seems to work on the 2016,2017 G80 does that mean that the new style key FOBs will also work on a 2015?

Might grab a couple when I get the card if they would work.

Sub'd I want to know too.

I can confirm they do. Took a chance and ordered one off of eBay. Part #95440 D2000BLH. Got it programmed today without issue.

Great to know! How much did it cost to get the key programmed? Did you get the physical key cut for your car as well? Thanks!

$90 for programming. I didn't get the blade cut as I will never use it.

Who programmed it for you?

Hyundai dealership

I am soo glad you posted this because I did a thread on it awhile back and didn't hear anything. Now Imma order from the same thing from ebay and get it programmed. Thanks...hope I get the same $90 charge or less.

Is there an advantage to having these over the original fob?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I also did this with the same part # above. I paid $150 to have it done at my house because they were supposedly able to cut the key, only to find out they couldn’t cut the key. So I have to get the physical key cut elsewhere. Remote works like a champ.

Note that the new key only LOOKS like leather, it’s grained plastic, unlike the leather (or more convincing fake leather) on the original key. And yes it is substantially larger than the old one.

I think the main benefit is that the new key fob will not inadvertently open your trunk or cause the panic alarm to go off while the key is in your pocket. When I put the 2015 Genesis key in my pocket, it sometimes causes the buttons to press as I move around.

mfaile/parisgrey -

Any additional information or tips from the dealership on how they did this? I've asked the dealership that I bought my '15 from as well as others in the Dallas area and everyone gave me a shocked and adamant, "it can't be done because we have to tie it to a VIN and each type of key fob is tied to a generation". Also something about an immobilizer code.

I thought it was as simple as, put in your '15 car vin, plug in the new key fob, program. Any insight would be appreciated so I can pass it on to the dealership. They all thought I was crazy, but I told them it has been confirmed by other genesis owners.

TIA

I didn't do it at the dealer, a local locksmith did it. he asked for my vin in advance and got some sort of programming code he had to enter into his little computer, a six digit number. then the computer stepped him through pressing the start button using the new fob, and the two old ones. that was it. if the dealer is giving you grief Google a locksmith that can program keyless remotes. the locksmith also thought it wouldn't work because the keys had different fcc ids. I told him to try it anyway. he was surprised it worked.

Thanks Paris. That helps relieve some concerns and confirms a level of simplicity with the process The dealership is willing to give it a shot, but they seem doubtful.

Hopefully mfaile (or anyone else that has done this) can give some insight with their dealership experience.

Thanks again for sharing.

make sure only one key at a time is physically in the car while they are mating the key to the car. mine didn't work until i took the old keys out of the car first.

I am still trying to process why, given the expense and larger size of the new fob, that people want one so bad??? Is it just that much prettier? :p

Beats me. I had the old now the new. I see no advantage. At home they reside on a shelf near the door, going out, it is in my pocket and the car starts. Certainly would not pay even $2 to have one over the other.

well, in my case, both my factory keys are kinda beat up. not sure why, car only had 4k miles when I bought it. I was thinking about getting a new key anyhow, and then a friend got a santa fe, and wouldn't you know it, it has the exact same key as the 2015s, but with the hyundai logo. Sooo, I spent the same I would have spent on a new old style key on the new key instead. I am really happy with it. I do like it more than the previous style and it does seem more resistant to accidental button presses.

Just took the key fob in today to the dealership and related Paris' tip. They were able to do it with no known issues. Got the fob programmed and key cut free of charge since the service department learned something new. Thanks again Paris for your helpful responses. A note for anyone looking to do this in the future, if a dealership gives you the funny eye when you ask for it, just ask them to try despite their hesitation- if it works, see if they'll give you a discount ;)
