If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Do US spec manual sport trim have leather or vinyl seats?

Can someone clear up if the US spec manuals have leather or "leatherette" vinyl interiors? The base is vinyl, and the sport spec lists some options which are found on higher trims, but it doesn't say leather interior. Therefore, I have to assume it's vinyl, and some early pre-release reviews said it had a vinyl interior. The G70 manual is at the top of my list but I really dislike vinyl. I like the smell and softness of real leather and I'm not going to replace the interior on a brand new car to get exactly what I want. If the new BMW g20 gen 3 series was reliable and manual, I would have paid extra for that, but the new 3 series BMW is not manual, nor have they ever been remotely reliable, so I'm looking at the G70 genesis.

I know Canadian spec cars have leather interior so my question is specific to US spec cars.

Sport trim has fine nappa leather with contrast stitching.

I really thought vinyl, but after clicking around the Build Your Own, I'm not sure. The builder seems to show the same seats as in the Elite package [color options and stitching are the same]--that package lists leather in the description. The 6MT config doesn't list leather specifically.

A U.S.-specific brochure would help!!

Definitely. In Canada, the manual gets the full 2.0T Sport treatment... Doesn't appear to be the case for the US market, which makes it very ambiguous until we (a) see a manual 2.0T on lots or (b) get a brochure, or (c) both. I certainly wouldn't trust the online configurator.

US manual gets leatherette, not the x-stitched quilted Nappa. it does not get the same true Sport setup as Canada. very odd, but it is what it is.

US 6MT gets the mechanical Sport bits, but lacks most of the Sport comfort/luxury items (no sunroof either!).

Yes, I'm specifically talking about US spec manual 2.0L Sport trim. Not the V6. I agree, the online configurator is weird. Before, it didn't show the surround monitor on higher trim automatic trans RWD 2.0, (only on AWD 2.0) but now it does.

If it's vinyl they lost a sale. It probably costs more to stock and hold inventory for vinyl skins for base cars so I dunno why leather isn't just standard. I feel the same about the vinyl in BMW and Audi - it's not nearly as good as real leather, IMHO. My preference is also because leather can be conditioned, and while it tends to wrinkle and crack sooner than vinyl if poorly maintained, it doesn't "break". When vinyl cracks it's gone, it can't be conditioned and repaired.

Hi folks,
I grabbed myself a brochure today. For sport, it says Quilted napa leather for sport level trims.

It does not confirm what each trim includes. ie, it will say that lexicon audio is an option for the 2.0t, but it doesn't say that "advanced" includes it or sport excludes it, etc. It sounds like Genesis is still figuring that out. I did not sit in a 2.0 sport to confirm, but the brochure lists leatherette, leather, quilted napa, and "sport quilted napa" as the seating options. I'll try and grab a photo at some point.

The 6MT trim kinda stands alone... while it has some "Sport" trim goodies, Genesis does not call it a Sport trim on the website. Sitting in a 2.0 Sport won't specifically help. But thanks.

hmmm...looks like you are correct.

My local dealership is allegedly getting a 6mt in this week, I think. I will check it out if that's the truth.

Based on the online configurator, the image for 6mt sport and Elite trims are the same. Elite is listed as leather seating surfaces with the same color options (grey or black). That likely indicates leather seating. The options list also says heated and ventilated seats, which I haven't seen with vinyl before.

Which city are you in? I haven't heard of any US spec SPort 6MT models becoming available yet. Then again, my local Detroit dealers are clueless about everything here...

I'm in the Boston area. One local dealer has 5 G70s on the lot. The sales manager alleged that they were getting a manual, which kind of shocked me. He also complained about having to sell Genesii, as he wants to sell hyundais. So who knows.

This review from July 2018 showed vinyl seats on the sport manual. The base has vinyl with no ventilation and the sport had base stitching pattern but with vents. The configurator show the same pattern on the seats as the base leather, but I wouldn't count on that being reliable.

I looked into buying OEM replacement skins but it's $1000/seat retail. After internet wholesale price and 2 front seats, you're talking $1500-1700 for upgrading the seats to nappa leather. Really silly on Genesis's part since that means they have to make base vinyl, vinyl w/vents, base leather, lux nappa, and sport nappa. They should have just made vinyl, leather, and one nappa. It probably costs them $200 to upgrade from vinyl to leather and they lost a sale because of this.

So, for what it's worth, there seems to be a group of videos from June and July that show the car at the Montreal/Maine demo. Alex on Autos, redline reviews, even Savagegeese all seem to show the same or similar cars. I wouldn't count on that being final spec. They also all show/test the car's 0-60 at 7.5 seconds, which is as slow as my RAV4 and defies the specs of the car. I saw this video:

Which I thought was more indicative of final spec, but one of the commenters mentions that it's a Canadian car. If that's the case and the US car is a stripper, I'm out.

That is a Canadian car. US car is different.

The 10/25/18 Pricing press release spells everything out pretty clearly, and is consistent with what's shown in the Redline Reviews youtube video that wtgw posted above. The 6M/T Sport starts with the feature content of the 2.0T Advanced RWD and builds on it. Leatherette seating surfaces with heated and ventilated front seats.

The new configurator has confirmed it. Leatherette seats. I would have gladly paid a little more for nappa leather, but I'm only interested in the manual and vinyl is a dealbreaker at this price point. At this point I'm going to wait a year for prices to come down and see if it's in my budget to swap the seat skins later or what changes are on the 2020s. Very disappointed since I'm in the market now.

It's always interesting to hear what other people's priorities are, where they draw the line. Different strokes for different folks.

Not even worth feeling the leatherette in person...?

I'll still test drive it but wouldn't buy without a hefty discount, which may be harder to get with the stick shift.

I've felt enough leatherette on BMW and Audi and other cars to get a sense of what it'll be like. Even cheap leather feels bad (BMW cough cough). Yes it doesn't wrinkle as much, but it feels like rubber to me. I'm not sitting on the seats naked, but I can tell the difference in the way it moves and I move across the seat. I also take care of my seats, so they age well. Vinyl is what it is, and when it cracks you can see the fibers in it, and it's gone. Just a personal thing. The smell of real leather is nice too, but not a dealbreaker!
