  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Do you ever get challenged to race?

I was coming home to San Diego at night on Interstate 5 last weekend, I was cruising comfortably with the speed set at 85 mph, I came up on a slower car and changed lanes to my right to go around. In doing so I came up on an Infinity Q50 in the number 3 lane that had nice wheels and tinted windows. Suddenly he speeds up to stay with me and revs up to invite me to race. All of this with my wife sleeping in the front seat. I figured what the heck, I had not really seen what my car could do. I jumped on it and watched the speedometer climb steadily past 120 before I let off and the Q50 shot by, of course my wife woke and asked what I was doing.

Not sure he knew I had the 4.6 V8 to his 3.7 V-6, but I guess my car does look sporty enough to elicit a challenge. It was fun and I felt 25 again for a second, but then the 54 year old took control again said slow down.

The other night I was coming up on an Audi merging from the on ramp at a high rate of speed.

Me: Look at that guy, he's trying to race me!

Wife: He's half a mile away, he doesn't even know you exist.

Me: Still, I should probably catch up to him just in case.

I think this will be more of an issue after the cut outs are installed. As a general rule I don't mess around on public roads - there are tracks close by for that. However I have been known to do a little playing on the highways from time to time :-)

Lol I get them all the time and unless I am with my kids, am more than happy to oblige :). Doesn't always go my way but I always have a good time.

Not a race and I never have raced......but.....
Going home from work on a four lane, light was red. I was second in line on the right and noticed it was a new, young co-worker in front of me in his late model WRX STI. We have talked cars several times as my son loves those WRXs, and I have told him so. He must have noticed it was me because when the light changed, he hit it hard. So after a split second of "Should I?", just for kicks, so did I.
DANG ESC!! Wheels chirped, then paused, then she (Genny) took off. About a 1/4 mile out from the light, I catch him, at which point my responsible senses kick in and I back down to legal speed as he pulls away.

Two miles later at the next light, I pull up beside him on the his left, as I turn left to go home. He looks over at me with an unbelievable, puzzled look on his face and says "You...you...caught me! What the hell is that thing?" PRICELESS!!!

In NC you come up to anyone in the passing lane, they hang there until it's stone-cold obvious that they have no business being there driving exactly the limit or below. After a while they figure they will get right and suddenly they start doing 80 to stall your pass. I gingerly press on the gas and pass them effortlessly every time and then I promptly get right after passing...Happens more than a few times every day. So I have many race-ettes every day. It's becoming a mini career...I just don't get paid for it.

My wife loves having the horsepower to do just that too

You know, the folks driving the Genesis Coupes are constantly trying to get my attention to run I guess out of curiosity? Often more on the highways than around town as I see them chasing me down when I am cruising at 80-85 mph in the left lane. Not really sure how that would shake out but I imagine I am faster. But they prob have mods on their vehicles?

I tend to ignore the Hoi Palloi when they attempt to challenge me.
I also give way to cars that outrank me, like an LS, S-Class, and 7 Series.

I always have a damn Honda Civic SI do flybys past me. My car is super loud so it always sounds like I wanna race but I don't want to. I should put him in his place one day.

Had a few M3 guys rev but always turn off. I've only had it for a few days so I can't say with any authority.
The fact is, I absolutely love this car and couldn't give a shit if i get beat. My 65 Mustang would beat every car I have raced, and I would get beat by a shit ton of cars in my Mustang. The fact is there is ALWAYS someone faster. Enjoy your wins and your loses.

They do this in Texas too. It's annoying. Most of the time I have my wife and kids in the car and I'm just trying to drive my desired speed. Every once in a while I'm alone and I get to let loose.

I would consider it a given that many of them have mods on their vehicles.

I have kept my 2010 4.6 Genesis stock so I'm not really sure what I would be capable of beating.
Mustangs seem to be the biggest cars I know "reeving" it up next to me. BMW's 3 series are punks, have not had any problem dusting them

I've gotten challenged to a race 4 times and loss only once. race a cla45amg, a acura tl, a A6 and got the dust blew by a modified g8. I got intimidated and put the manual mode on and got embarrass lol. I don't usually race anymore but definitely had to break the car in to see what I had under the hood and I was pretty impress.

I race my wife's Q50. Both cars are fairly even, but the infiniti shifts much quicker and much more aggressively and every time the Genny shifts I lose ground lol. I can usually keep a car ahead if I launch perfectly - if I spin her AWD eats my lunch.

Only Subaru's so far. It's like they have some sort of inferiority complex. It's the stock wagons and other cars that have no chance. The built STI's know who they are f'n with and play/or don't play knowing what they have and if they think they can win.
Honda's = Zero so far. It's all fun. Don't get mad or talk shit about another brand because of it. There is always someone out there faster/WAY FASTER! There are 7, 8 and 9 second street cars out there that will humble you and pucker your *******. Just have fun and enjoy your car.

They're probably trying to figure out why you're cruising in the passing lane and not in the cruising lane.
