  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does this make any Financial Sense, trading my Lexus for another Genny?.......

Well, I have had my 2011 Genesis for over a month and am loving the car. Actually it is my wife's and I am having a hard time getting her to let me drive it.:D

So I have my 2007 Lexus GS350 and I am thinking of getting another Genesis. I could easily get $25K for my mint Lexus and could buy another 2011 Genesis for another $13K. Normally, I am on an "8 Year Schedule" for cars. IOW - I would get rid of my Lexus in the fall of 2014 and buy a new car. By then my Lexus would have depreciated to around $13K or so. So then I would be looking at another $30K for a new Genesis. (Assuming some price increase) or maybe even some quality deterioration (Which I have seen with Lexus) - Right now the 2011 Genesis is Primo Quality (And I fear it may go downhill)

The only way I would do this, is after driving our Genesis to Florida for the winter. Assuming that the car is almost problem free and that I love it next March as much as I do now, I would pull the trigger on this idea. This would mean I would get another Genesis in March of 2011.

I am trying to talk myself into this and need some comments. Am I overlooking anything? Or should I go ahead and decide on the Color?

I think Flyboy needs to comment here. And no, my Mommy does not have an opinion!:)

I buy a new car every 2-3 years....but it is NEVER financially feasible to buy a new car. Cars are not a financial consideration for me. It is a luxury that I decide to have and not worry about $$$$. What am I going to do with $$$ give it to uncle sam/Obama ????

I sure wish I could cost justify trading in my 09 for a new v8 model. I think the price I would have to pay would not be worth it...

I find it funny that when I was shopping for the Genie, I found 07 GS350s for sale for 35K or more. I wanted one in red....absolutely loved the "look" of the car.

nb_mike - where about in Indiana are you? I love Southeast of Indy.

Take care,

Bob

I graduated from IU (years before you were born) - loved IU, loved Bloomington. Haven't been back since, though. Maybe a road trip one of these days to check it out...

If this is about cost... don't trade.. because it will cost you to trade...

However if you want the car.. you suggest your DEP on the GS is 12k for the next 4 model years (use your numbers).. A 43k Genesis will DEP to 56% of value in the same time... So the cost of the Genesis is 19K.. or a 7K cost premium to buy the Genesis (for the next 4 years)....

Doesn't sound like a big cost to me , as you will get the car you want...

Now..You already said you are waiting till spring.... Next fall the the highly anticipated 5.0 TAU is likely to hit the market.... If I were looking in April, I might hold on another 6 months and get the upgraded engine....

Of course the pricing may change with the new engine... Infiniti has gone nuts on pricing with the M56.. I am worried the New 5.0 TAU may give Hyundai a reason to push much closer to $50k...

I have the 2009 4.6 Tau.. love it.. but when the 5.0 comes, if it makes the power I expect (around 430 hp), I think I will be ready to trade.. (3 years is about my average, 2012 model year should be right)... I already want the smart cruise control.. but I want the DI 5.0....

Thanks for your insightful reply. Actually the reason that I would buy another 2011 Genesis, is because this may be as close to a perfect car that I have come across. The 2011 may have most of the 'bugs' out of the Genesis. $7 Grand is probably worth it to me to get another Genesis. I won't determine if the Genesis is as good as I think it is (For Me) for around 6 months. Thus far I am loving it.

I don't want any changes because along with good change, usually comes bad Change. I had a 99 Lexus GS300, which I considered to be almost a perfect car. The 3rd Generation GS was a step downhill in quality and comfort. I fear this will happen to the Genesis. And as you say. The price will go up or if it doesn't, the quality will go down.
