  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just drove downhill and had to switch to manual for lower gears, I didn't see a 1 or 2 on the regular automatic mode, is that how its supposed to be done?

You won't see 1 and 2 on a 6 or 8 speed transmission.

Two ways to do it. Move the shift lever to manual and tap back it to lower the gear.
or
Just tap the left paddle shifter.

Got it, thanks for the confirmation and the paddle shifter mode, heading to Utah this week and will give it a try.

When I was driving in the mountains in Big Bend, I found that putting it in Sport mode gave me the lower gears that I needed.

While driving on Rt. 30 in Pennsylvania, aka The Lincoln Highway, I ran down a 10% downslope for about 3/4 of a mile. This road runs through the Laurel Highlands East of Pittsburgh and is just up and down one valley after the next. It’s really tough on the brakes. So on the 50 MPH 10% grade I tried downshifting. It took 3rd gear and 4000 RPM to maintain 50 MPH...
So my question is: Is downshifting on long steep hills a good idea?
