Downloads?

Excuse my ignorance, but what and where do we download from? I've seen map threads, but map still shows up on my '99. I've seen other threads that hint at software upgrades as well.

Am I supposed to be checking and installing updates of some sort? My ApplePlay no longer works.

So does it update automagically in the background or do I download and install using a USB memory stick or SD card?

The older models use and SD card, some of the newer ones use a USB stick. If you have the SD card you can use the existing one to download to. It takes a while so don't get impatient. Once loaded, put it in the car and take a ride for 30 or 40 minutes to keep the car running. You won't have a radio or backup camera while you do. When the music comes back, you are done.

I suspect mine is an early model, it has a SD reader on the dashboard and according to the lookup, runs Standard Gen 5 software. I've tried just about everything else (USB and SD -- two sizes, direct to portable drive, to hard drive, then copy to portable, etc.) with no luck. Now, I swear the site has changed in the last 10 days or so. I login, go through the steps to update Navigation with all good, but when I try to launch (run, open) the updater per instructions, I get a refusal to open from MAC either because bit u=inspected and approved by Apple (this, I get around) to corrupt file. At one time, this too I could bypass, but somewhere along the way, Apple's OS took this option away.

So, I'll give your suggestion a shot. Should I download it directly from and to the car? Should I choose the Win or MAC version to download? Will it immediately start decompressing and extracting without action on my part, and if not, what do I do then?
