  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So last night I am driving through to get some fast food for my friend and of course the drive way and car in front of me set off the sensors.

The issue was that I couldn't find a way to silence the alarms without moving myself.

Does anyone know how to mute or turn down the parking assist sound when it goes off?

The only thing I could find was in the driver menu, reducing the sound from 2/3 to 1 but it could still be very annoying if you can't mute it completely if you can't move yourself for more than a few seconds.

2015 - 5.0 standard package if it matters.

Not sure if yours is the same but mine has the on off button on the center console so quite easy to shut up.

Just push the button on the center console to turn it off.

That's right!

In between the the seat heater buttons. Thanks guys!

Haha stupid question. This thing has so many buttons!

It is best to read and study the owner's manuals before operating sophisticated equipment.

And ... now it's my turn to defend someone else. I don't know about you, but I've driven my baby for several months now, have read ALL the manuals, keep copies in PDF to refer to ... and STILL I didn't know about that button either!

Also, I have to wonder on what's happening to set off park assist myself: although I've used drive-thrus on occasion I can't imagine why the cars in front or behind would set off the park assist? I've never had it go off and thus never had to try to find a button I didn't know about!

It is easy to set it off if you get close to the car in front of you. As for the rear sensor, that will only go off in reverse. I use this button quite frequently actually.

On another subject, I absolutely LOVE the rear cross traffic alert. It is amazing how wide its range is. It really makes pulling out of a parking spot with no way to see left/right (large vehicles parked next to you) very easy.

Sure, why not? It's a lease, I'm going to put this car through the paces. A little light eating never hurt anyone. It's not a Rembrandt.

That being said, my buddy asked me to get him food and ate it at his house so the car's honor remains intact. But I did eat an eggwhite delight in it this morning.

I've only had the car three weeks. I read the big manual, the shortcut version, observed this forum for a few weeks and did dozens of hours of research.

I actually hadn't reread it before I asked the question. Although I guess I could have.

My priority so far has been largely related to customizing the nanny systems. Some is intuitive, some is not, this particular issue was simple.

Next up is getting out of the car with the key and the engine running and not having the car scream at me. :o

Haha thanks. I'm actually fairly savvy and sophisticated and this one was just sort of a "duh" moment. This thing has so many do hickeys, it's nuts.

Park assist is fairly sensitive. Cars in front and behind will set it off too closely and in my case the other night... Driveway curb and ferns.

I knew it had to be semi simple and it was even more so when I realized it.

This has been my experience exactly. And although I like blind spot, I might have to mute the sound as southern California merging often requires some tight negotiating.

Agreed - I leave blind spot monitoring on but it does come one when you merge in front of someone else in what I consider a safe distance (I like to get back over quickly to keep the traffic flow going).

As to first, can only say that in stop and go traffic or at drive thrus I've never had it go off ... maybe like my tendency to hit curbs you tend to get a leetle too close??

But oh YES ...+1 right witchoo on the rear cross alert: saved MY badonkadonk a NUMBER of times when I couldn't see ... or when people decided that the laws of physics do NOT apply to them and two bodies CAN occupy the same space at the same time without the endoskeletal one getting keerushed!

I know it's possible to control the 'Nav voice' volume level but I'm not finding a way to lower the volume of the 'Nanny' alerts I get sent every now an then . And yes, I have read the manual several times and I've pushed seemingly every button in the car in an attempt to not need to ask this question. There must be a way to make 'Nanny' a bit more subtle when she steps in.

When the nav voice is talking just turn down the volume. It quiets her down..

That does the trick with the Nav voice but how about the non verbal 'notifications' from 'early :D' lane changes, forward and rear distance sensors or cross traffic alert sensors?
I know these alarms are designed to get your attention but everyone in the car as well as the driver almost jump through the sun roof when you are 'reminded' that perhaps you might have merged just a little early - at least according to the buzzer 'Nanny'.
