  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've been a vocal critic of the iPod integration on the Tech package Genesis. In that criticism, I've (rightfully) pointed out the difficulty in searching for a song. I've held up the Ford Sync system as something to strive for; it appeared to me from their advertising that you could search for songs verbally by name, and they would play. Well, I'll have my crow baked, tyvm. Check out this comment in this article on The Truth About Cars:

The big problem is that most iPod integration systems are varying degrees of garbage. Currently, Ford’s SYNC system is the worst, despite its ubiquity, and every Ford product I review, I try and bash it. I would stop, but I’ve yet to have a SYNC system that works properly, without being a massive distraction and malfunctioning on multiple occasions. None of my passengers, from my technologically savvy 18-year-old brother, to my own friends (who are supposed to be “connected”, “plugged-in” Gen-Y types) can figure it out, and if they do, they inevitably get frustrated with the confusing menus, lack of a “back” button (a crucial feature when your iPod has 10,000 songs and you don’t want to scroll through endless menus to find one damn song) and the occasional disconnection because “SYNC failed to connect to your portable audio device”.

The grass is always greener, I suppose. Uh, please pass the salt.

Nah, your complaints are as valid as Sync's users. Here's my latest:
At least in the Genesis the iPhone4 would fit in the upper deck of the console while plugged it. In the Equus, they've shortened the upper deck. Now the phone will fit, but only if not plugged in. To use it as an iPod you have to pull the cord out of the lower console area, plug it into the phone, and rest the phone in the cupholder. Upside down. And close the console ON the cord.
I suspect I'll be demanding new cords as these break...

Talk about iPod "integration".

Some manufacturer should just hire Apple to design the user interface for the in car entertainment systems. BMW seems to moving towards tighter integration with iPhone in particular.

What I would like to see is an 'app' that I can download for my in car entertainment system. Really, does it need to be any more complicated than a docking slot for my iPad?

I think the car manufacturers over think the problems and or are using people that apparently never drive their cars or use smart phones, iPods etc.
