  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm in the Army stationed in Korea. I bought my 2009 Genesis 4.6 over the internet back in Nov 09. I flew back to Ga to get the car. The car was delivered to me at the hotel on Tuesday, I found a couple of minor problems and they fixed them and returned the car. Then the problems started. On Thursday night (first night drive) the street lights shown into the tinted portion of the windshield. It said:" 2009 North American Car of Year". I took it back the next day, they tried to fix it. But said they had to replace the windshield and it would be two weeks to get it. Since I had to turn the car in for shipping that Monday and depart for Korea that same day. We agreed that I would send the bill for the shield replacement from Korea. The car arrived on Christmas for the wife (Very Happy). Now after 14 emails, and 5 phone calls they refuse to talk or respond and I'm stuck with a $624 windshield bill.

I guess that before your car was delivered, it had the Decal that said "2009 North American Car of the Year" up at the top of the windshield. I've seen a lot of Genesis' with that decal. What surprises me is that when they removed the decal, (they did remove the decal didn't they?) you could still see the imprint from the decal when street lights shown on that area.

I'm confused. Are you saying that you shipped the car to Korea and had the windshield changed there, or that your Atlanta dealer changed the windshield when you shipped out to Korea and that your wife is driving it there, in Korea?

If your Atlanta dealer changed it in Atlanta, and then the car either stayed in the US, or went to Korea, why did your dealer charge you for the change. It was their fault in the first place.

If you shipped it to Korea, and then changed it in Korea, well, you really didn't believe the Atlanta dealer would pay for it did you???

BTW, Thank you for your service.

They prepped the car for delivery. First time I noticed the writing was when I drove the car that first night and I folded the visors back you could only see the words across the window very clearly then. You can't see it from the outside until you look at an angle. They tried to fix it (clean/polish) but could not remove it. Further determination by the dealer was that because the car was sitting in the sun in Atlanta the words burned into the tint. The final result was to order a new window. However, due to my schedule of shipping and return to Korea, since this was on a Friday and I had to ship the car on Monday which was before they could get a replacement in. So we agreed and shipped the car, when it arrived in Korea and I sent them an estimate of replacement, they would reimburse me. Well, the car is here in Korea and the dealer is not responding to my communications. Basically, I've been blown off. Just anothor sob story now. I did write Hyundai consumer affairs and got a Thank You note and response #.

Keep a copy of your note to Hyundai consumer affairs, plus the thank you note. Also all communications with the Atlanta dealer. You may be able to get the windshield changed once you return Stateside, seeing as how the problem started while still in warranty.

BTW, that $624 windshield bill is more than $200 less than getting it done Stateside.

Thanks Bob, for the advice. I plan on extending another two years. I place this in lessons learned. Putting that aside; my pride swells here when I drive my Genesis. For I get stares by the Koreans, since I have the only Red 4.6Genesis in Korea. Koreans only have four choices Black,Gray,Silver, or dark blue and No Pearl paint. The only engine sizes available here is 3.3 and 3.8. When mine arrived the Korea Gov't place an import tax of 13 million won ($12,500) on the car. I'm exempt so I didn't have to pay. :)

Will also be easy for you to bring back to the States, as it is an American Spec car, purchased in the US. Buying a car overseas is no longer easy if you want to bring it back to the US.

I remember (yes, I'm old) the days when I could buy anything overseas, and bring it back, and I did, but because of newer pollution and safety laws, we can't do that anymore. (Wish I had brought back a Mercedes, rather than the Triumph TR3A that I did bring back )

Yeah Ed Voyles is not a good dealer. They have no business owning a luxury car franchise.

There are several negative comments regarding Ed Voyles in this thread, but my experience to date has been nothing but positive. They offered the lowest price when I purchased, and the service under Rob, the Service Advisor, has been outstanding. Today, I took my Ginny to Ed Voyles because the steering wheel leather had begun to crack, and Jason, the Service Manager, took one look and ordered a new steering wheel rim no hassle, no issues. I guess anyone can have a bad experience at just about any dealer, but my experience to date with Ed Voyles has been outstanding. I also own a Lexus and a Mercedes, and Ed Voyles has provided much better service than the Lexus or Mercedes dealers I go to. I'm sorry that some have had a bad experience, but my experience with Ed Voyles has been great.

I'm glad someone has received vehicle service from Ed Voyles. The only service I've received is not to mentioned in public and still am being serviced by them. They still refuse to repair my windshield that say "2009 Car of the Year" etched in my shaded portion of the windshield. Both Roy and Lanny the sales man will not even talk to me anymore.
There office refuses to talk, so I’m taking this to Hyundai directly in Korea to voice my opinion on Ed Voyles dealership responsibilities. Again, I'm glad someone has received great service.

Same here. Sorry to hear others haven't had the same experience, but Ed Voyles has been really great with me. Does warranty work without hesitation or playing games, gives loaner cars, etc.

Now you have me completly discombobulated. You are in Korea. Your car is in Korea, the only Red Genesis in Korea. Ed Voyles is in the US. How do you expect Ed Voyles to change your windshield? Do you expect Ed Voyles to send a technician to Korea to change your windshield?

When an American drives in Canada, and he needs warranty work, he can't get it done under warranty in Canada. He pays for it himself.

When a Canadian drives in the USA, and he needs warranty work, he also can't get it done under warranty in the US. He pays for it himself.

How do you expect to get warranty work, from an American Dealer done in Korea?

How do you expect to get warranty done by a Korean dealer when you purchased an American spec car in the USA?

Your best bet is to just live with the "09 Car of the Year" windshield that you have, or --- bite the bullet and pay to have the Korean spec windshield installed, or even an American Spec windshield if a Korean dealer can order it. You may buy a Korean spec windshield, but when you return the car back to the USA, nobody will know the difference.

Correct me where I'm wrong.
