  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How good is the HVAC system in the Genesis? Is the A/C strong enough to counter hot north american temperatures? I have to assume the heater can battle Canadian winters. From memory, I think there are rear vents by the doors - do they push out a lot of air to keep the rear occupants warm or cold? Thanks

It keeps us cool here in Georgia.

My Genesis pumps out plenty of cool air to keep us comfortable in South Florida. Back seat passengers say they're cool also. Heat - haven't had to use it yet.

(fingers crossed) The A/C in my Genny is the best I've ever had. I do have tinted windows which I'm sure helps, but, the "solar" glass in the Genny is a huge help too.

Not only are there vents between the front and rear doors, but at the rear of the console as well. They're adjustable for air direction and the vents on the rear of the console have a temp control on them as well.

(hope I didn't just jinx one of the few things that's never had a problem)

There are several other threads about A/C performance on the Genesis sedan. Some folks feel their car takes too long to actually have cold air blasting out the vents - the fan runs at high speed while the air is still hot - compared to other cars they are familiar with. Conversely, others think the A/C in their car works as good as any other car they've experienced. Mine seems to do well (early 2009) though it does take a little longer to get cold vent airflow when stuck in stop-n-go traffic; the A/C gets cold faster with good airflow through the nose of my car. Once cold, stop-n-go traffic doesn't seem to reduce the A/C performance for me.

The other thing that has caught some folks is the rear sent vents at the back of the armrest/console assembly. It has an air speed control dial and air temp dial... and some folks find that temp control drifts on its own to the "heat" setting!

When it's 90-100F outside and a Genesis without tinted windows has been sitting in the sun and is about 120-140 F INSIDE the car, and the car is started and left sitting at idle or moving slowly (NOT faster than ~25 mph), then the AC will have a hard time cooling down the cabin. For this reason some folks consider the AC underpowered.

Once the car starts moving > 25 mph and the condenser can get enough heat transfer going to the outside air, the interior cools down pretty quickly.

This was exactly the case with mine last summer.

Compared to the 03 Explorer, it is a little slower to start blowing either cold air or warm air (depending on season). Once started, it keeps the temp were you want it.
