  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm having a strange problem with my 2015 Genesis 5.0 and tire alignment. I installed 2 new front tires and also had them do a four wheel alignment. It has obviously been pulling pretty hard to the right as evidenced by the front tire wear. Anyway after the alignment it was much better but my wife, who is the major driver of this car, still noticed a slight pull/drift to the right. I took it on a run and let the tires come up to temp before seeing what it was up to. It was still pulling to the right but given that there was a 5-6 lbs. differential left to right in the front tires I figured that might be the problem so when the tires had cooled over night I balanced them at all corners but it still had a slight and consistent pull to the right...regardless of which side of the road crown I was on or the road surface. I returned to the local tire dealer who put it back on the alignment rack and reported that they swapped the tires and that fixed it. I didn't have to drive it more than a mile or 2 to know that it hadn't changed a lick.

About a week later I needed the 67k service so I took it to the nearest Genesis dealer and asked that they check the alignment while explaining in detail what I was experiencing. Anyway they did another 4 wheel alignment and gave me the printouts that showed the measurements both before and after that showed several degrees of out of spec conditions supposedly followed by a test drive afterwards. Due to a parts mix-up (they had the wrong brake pads for my car so it spent the night on their lift while they put me in a free rental for the night.

The kicker is that upon taking the car I didn't get a 1/4 of a mile from the dealership when it was obvious that the car still pulled to the left as soon …. like immediately...I let go of the steering wheel and within 150 feet would be in the other lane. Not under braking as it would just glide off to the right. I took it right back and got the service advisor I has been working with and got him to take a short ride with me so he could see what I was talking about and he agreed that it was in fact not my imagination and that they needed to take another longer look at the problem. Before I take it back I wanted to get so other voices who may have had a similar problem with this or a similar car.

I write this to avoid having to respond to the usual culprits. It has new front tires, no busted belts or wonkie sidewalls, balanced tire pressure, or physical damage to the suspension or frame (I had that checked).

Back in my younger days many years ago when we had engine driven power steering the steering pump had a centering valve and if it went stopped functioning it would cause the pump to apply too much pressure to one side or the other. Almost never happened but was a possibility. What I'm experiencing is similar in that there is always a slight and barely noticeable pull on the steering wheel and as soon as my hand leaves it there's a 3-5 degree spin to the right. With 4 wheel alignments having been done by 2 different dealers and one showing graphically a before and after printout what other than alignment could cause this constant.

Is it possible that the electric motor and/or any potentiometers could be causing this constant pressure on the wheel. We're dealing increasingly with electronic controls at all 4 corners that are governed by sensors and various 'modules' and computers so simple mechanical problems are no longer the only problem we face
