  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2011 3.8 with Nav. etc. with many intermittent problems.
1) Put car in reverse & side mirrors do not lower or do not return when taken out of reverse.
2) Start car & put in Drive & seat & or steering wheel does not move in position or partially moves into position, or reverse when car is sut off.
3) CD is play & then says no CD in & insert CD
4) Unlock car with fob then push start & nothing happens, may have to try 3 to 5 times.
These are all intermittent & can not be replicated at the dealership with car being left there for 2 days at a time.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Hi RobRoy,

To answer question 1, the switch in the middle of the mirror select button should be positioned left or right. Keeping it switched to the center position will not activate the lowering sequence.

Mirrors not returning to position when car is put in drive might be an idication that the switch could be at fault.

Have you consulted your owners manual? That has helped me out on my 2011 4.6 with the Tech Package.

1) Put car in reverse & side mirrors do not lower or do not return when taken out of reverse. Left / right mirror switch must not be in center position if you wish to activate this feature.
2) Start car & put in Drive & seat & or steering wheel does not move in position or partially moves into position, or reverse when car is sut off.
Try resetting the memory 1 or 2 as per instructions.
3) CD is play & then says no CD in & insert CD Does this same CD play flawlessly on other players? Possible scratch or dirty? Do any other CD's play ok in the Genesis?
4) Unlock car with fob then push start & nothing happens, may have to try 3 to 5 times. Is your foot on the brake when you push start? If not you will get only accessory initially.
These are all intermittent & can not be replicated at the dealership with car being left there for 2 days at a time. Have you read your owners manual in depth, especially in items of your concern above? Because if the dealer cannot reproduce said same, then you should show them by replicating your concerns in front of them not just leave it and walk away and expect by chance they will replicate. This wastes their time and yours. These cars are complicated and in 5 to 10yrs. even more so that they will not be a quick study at all. How long have you had this vehicle btw?

Has anyone experienced anything like this?

My above response in highlighted in red, hope this helps and please let us know exactly the fix for each one of your issues when you / they resolve them.
Good Luck

Item #2: the seat & steering wheel automatic repositioning (from the "easy access" points) stops/aborts as soon as the shift lever is moved out of Park. So if you're quick to put the car in gear... you'll end up with a seat and steering wheel in the wrong positions.

#3: just one particular CD or others too? Store-bought or burned on a computer?

#4: How long are you pushing the START button? It takes more than a quick jab on my car (2009 V8/Tech) to make it work; at least half a second push is needed. Does the dash display do anything when you push the button - if so, it's not the button, it's something else. If the dash stays totally unlit (car shut off mode) then it's not seeing the button push OR the "key detection" circuit isn't working. The "key in vehicle" antennas are different from the antennas used to detect "key near outside of vehicle so allow it to lock or unlock." To see if this is your bug, unlock with the fob the normal way. When you get into the car, stick the fob into the in-dash fob port (under the CD/DVD drive, near the storage slot) all the way (so it locks into position) and then try the START button. If this makes the car start reliably on the first START push, either the battery in the fob is getting weak or the interior keyless start antennas are not working/connected properly. Or you've got metal stuff in your pocket/purse blocking the fob perhaps? Another nearby electronic gizmo with RFID type of technology can interfere too.

Electrical connectors not 100% seated seems to be the most common assembly error reported by folks on this board: cam position sensor cable not plugged in fully, power window & door lock switch assembly connector, etc. And loose fuses - the fuse block clips sometimes don't seem to grab the fuses tightly enough sometimes. With the engine OFF but the stereo playing a CD, rake your fingers over the fuses at each end of the dash AND in the compartment under the hood. Anything that makes the stereo hiccup is a loose/bad joint to show to the dealer.

I no longer have this vehicle. The dealership had experienced one of the problems and could not explain it. The resolution to the problem was that between Hyundai head office and the dealership they replaced the vehicle with a new vehicle without any cost to me.

I have never heard of any company doing that before.

Wow, HMA initiated a car replacement? For one or more of the (frankly minor) issues you reported? That's amazing. The only item that has the potential to be even sorta serious is the last one, and you'd think that could be resolved by replacing the starter. But taking back the entire friggin' car? I'd have loved to be a fly on the wall when your situation was discussed by the dealer and HMA. There's got to be more to the story. How many miles did you have on your car?

Maybe Hyundai Canada is making an effort to improve its reputation?

This is the Achilles heel wih my Genesis:
1/ blown fuses
2/ steering wheel positioning
3/ driver seat positioning
4/ voice command
5/ bluetooth
1 and 2 above have finally been corrected and the rest remain as intermittents and the service dept. cannot duplicate the fault and cannot fix them.

This car is leased and I will not buy the car and will be looking for something else. Before you flame me, I will clearly state that I love driving this car. I just find too many electrical problems with it.

That is absolutely incredulous. Which dealer in the Toronto aread facilitated the replacement? With service of that nature, may have to go for a visit. ;)

I have read about some of the horror stories but honestly I have had nothing but a positive experience with their service levels. In fact I have a 2007 Odyssey that I take off the road each winter and have Honda perform a full detail including engine shampoo.....solicited my Hyundai service manager yesterday and he will provide the same coverage at 20% less cost.

Again, cannot speak for all dealers but mine seems fervent about both customer acquisition and retention.......will report back on whether the detail quality is tantamount to that of Honda, but if so I will be quite pleased. ;)

Just back from the Hyundai dealer and responded to their email regarding my satisfaction with the service, with the following:

You should know that three intermittent problems were reported, and that not a single one of those was fixed:

1/ driver’s seat will not move back
2/ voice command does not respond (the middle button on the left side of the steering wheel does nothing)
3/ bluetooth cannot find the cellphone

We have decided to complete this lease and say goodbye to Hyundai. However, we hope that at least number one, above, can be fixed before the end of the lease as it has already caused problems that are more than annoying. She is 5’5” and I am over 6’ tall. When the driver’s seat refuses to move back, it is very uncomfortable and unsafe for me to drive this car. It always moves forward, so she is never put in a situation like that. You should follow up on this with Hyundai. I am documenting all of this, by the way. If I cannot get to the brake in time ..............
