  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Interestingly, the power steering will revert back to normal for short periods of time lately. For the longest time it was exactly the opposite pattern: it was normal 98% of the time and then just made it difficult now and then maybe once or twice per month. I have no idea why it will all of a sudden work or why it will all of a sudden not work.

I did bring it to the local car mechanic who opened everything up in that area and tested and thought it was the pump.

The problem began in April 2019 when I had somehow let the power steering fluid get to a low ebb. My thought is that maybe some air or sediment got in the hydraulic pathway.

I'm at my wits end. The thing is vastly expensive. $2000 for the part alone at the dealer. I found one online OEM for $1300 or so. I found the 2010 model from a junk car for only $400 but I don't want to try it. The SKU = 574103M200

Anyone know if that would have worked?

I got really lucky here. I found used part for "only" $500 and I was doubly lucky insofar as my vin number implies that my car is a 2010 so the part I found was compatible.

My regular mechanic wouldn't put in the used part, but yourmechanic.com did and so instead of $2700 for the job I'm down around $700 total.

It's working perfectly now! So happy.
