The Parking Brake May Develop a Screeching Noise or Fail To Release : Land Rover Range Rover Sport Brakes
I recently bought a 2011 Genesis Sedan 4.6. Had to have the electronic emergency brake assembly replaced recently because a 6 inch strip of the emergency/parking brake literally broke off inside the rotor hub. Replaced both rear rotors (to keep it even wear) and the electronic emergency brake assembly was installed by a back yard mechanic friend.
It worked fine for a couple of weeks (use it periodically only) but the other day I parked and turned ON the electronic EBP and I heard a loud screeching sound. I managed to click the EEBP switch to off by pulling up on it TWICE and it stopped the screeching (ie it released).
When I click the EEBP on to now test it- it immediately starts screeching as though “stop” sensor or actuator (?) is no longer functioning. Nothing is signaling the EEBP to stop (since engaged)/ or to tell the car that the EEBP is now in place to hold the brake.
A shop told me they could look at it (next day) but he said it sounds like an issue for a dealership. I want to avoid dealerships.
To summarize, previously when I turned on the EEPB, it would make the regular hum and click noise. But now it’s a hum and SCREECH noise until I disengage it at the lower dash switch.
Please advise.
Thank you.
