I bought my 2010 4.6 Tech in March, and I love it, but I had an intermittent problem: at startup, the ESC, EPB, and Brake lights would come on and stay on, and the gearshift was frozen. I had to turn it off and re-crank, and then it was fine. This happened for the first time a few weeks ago.
When I brought the car in the first time, they scanned it, found an error code with what they called a CAN unit, and replaced the $3,000 head unit for the DVD/Navigation system. I was happy about that, since the special 3-year warranty on that part was about to expire.
4 days later the same problem happened. I immediately brought the car back in, and this time they kept it for 8 days (gave me a Sonata loaner). They told me they were exhaustively testing various parts of the electrical system, and they actually got it to reproduce the problem--once. They ended up, after days of testing and ruling things out, checking and cleaning all the grounds and giving it back today along with a thorough explanation. They still aren't 100% sure they've found and fixed the problem but suspect that there was a small short somewhere with a ground.
They said this has happened with the V8 Genesis before, but apparently only rarely, as the shop foreman himself had to get on the line with Hyundai's engineers to figure out what to look for and diagnose out before testing the next thing. I was impressed with the professionalism of the dealer service department, but I wonder--has anyone else out there with a 2010 V8 Tech package Genesis had a similar electronic gremlin? If so, what did you do and what were you told?
