  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello
I was stopped at a light in my 2014 Genesis 3.8 and a bell alarmed and I got a red message saying Emergency Break Automatically applied. I tried to go forward and the car would not move and a message saying release Parking break came on. I tried to use the switch by the LDWS and nothing, Tried putting on gas Nothing. Finally put in Park, Back to Drive, and Voila, car started moving. I did not get the normal parking break light.
I can't seem to find anything about it.
Any Ideas.

Did you have the auto hold function enabled?

I once somehow bumped the trunk release button, and when the trunk showed open at a stop, it put the emergency brake on automatically. It took me a while to figure out why it kept putting the ebrake on.

Hey Dmitrylm
I don't believe I had the Auto Hold on.
Could it have been the guy in front of me rolled back?

I had the same thing happen - used the same remedy.

I read that section of the manual at least 3 times and finally concluded that the parking brake runs on witchcraft - Welcome to high tech.

This usually happens when you're using the Auto Hold feature and are stopped for too long. If you were not aware of having Auto Hold on, you either inadvertently activated it or for some reason there was a glitch during this particular ride and it activated itself. But this is exactly what happens when you're stopped for too long. It's a safety feature built in just in case you forget you're using Auto Hold and want to get out of the car. The Emergency Brake will be activated (better safe than sorry). It happens with all cars that have this feature. The only difference is the amount of time when it's triggered. And I'm pretty confident that that specific time isn't always set in stone - even though it's supposed to be.

All these techno goodies are a little ahead of their time and not exactly THE most reliable things at this point...

The primary manual "The Owner's Manual" contains many references to possible malfunctions and conflicts, some involving brakes, that are a little unnerving. The many comments that I see on the forum also reflect problems.

Obviously - the whiz-bang gadgets are a work in progress.

And, yes, I have read the manuals in their entirely and have a technical resume. That's why I use the term "gadgets" instead of a "higher level" term like "technology" to describe them.

Fortunately, under all the fluff, there's a real substantive car there that I really like.

I should be purchasing my 2015 very soon. I really hope this isn't too much of a problem (Auto Hold) because it's a feature I really like to use. Perhaps I should start practicing quickly coming out of an unintended emergency brake engagement situation as a precaution...

I stopped using the feature (autohold) - maybe someday it won't hold and then that great big V8 will push me right into the next guy. ***

Meanwhile, I gotta recall notice that I gotta deal with - the taillight problem.

Lots of first year bugs to deal with. But that's typical with high tech luxury cars...

I don't really want to hear that.

More on emergency brakes - these are electrically actuated, and in reading the manual, they seem to be applied automatically for any little thing that comes up. And sometimes for no real reason.

Sounds suspiciously like more "lawyer engineering" just like the opening "warning message".

Which, by the way, don't we have some smart software engineers around who can disable that thing?

Is the Genesis Sedan your first luxury car? If so, get used to it. :p They're almost all like this. The only luxury brand that doesn't have these first year issues is Lexus...

Maybe you're right. Overzealous brakes in the name of "safety"...
