  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Ya, wow! I learned to drive four-wheeled vehicles in my folk's 1956 VW van. It had something like 40 HP and a strong wind could easily push it backwards. A/C was a vent over the driver's head and the driver and front seat passenger sat just inches from the front bumper. It was a gas to drive though, even in hilly San Francisco and had tons of room. They later had the camper edition as did my sister's family and traveled all over the place in it. It got great gas mileage but didn't have a gas gauge. Once, after a weekend drive from Tucson to Phoenix, my dad takes the van out and stops at a gas station to fill it up for the trip home and it takes only 4 cents worth (this was in the late 50's). He comes home wondering whether the car has a problem not knowing my mother had already filled it up earlier. Still, 4 cents of gas for two round trips to the gas station?

Yep, at one time or another I think we have all driven the early Bugs and then the Caravan...........gr8 fun for all ;)
The Porsche inspired 1302s was a fun caR............

I've been reading about this. I actually really REALLY would love to own one of these, but they're sooooo unsafe, that it just doesn't make sense to get one. I certainly wouldn't wanna cart my kids around in one of these:

Spent a great deal of my youth being driven around in one of those. They're a little piece of nostalgia I shall carry with me, always.

(sheds tear)

Brings me back to the day! This was the car that was primarily responsible for me learning to drive a stick shift. It was my mom's car that she learned to drive on when she was nearly 50 years old. So when I was 15, I watched her shift, lurch, stall, etc., until she got it right. So before I got my license, I already knew how to drive a stick shift just by watching her. :)
