  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello,
I have a 2009 Genesis 4.6L. Two+ years ago when was driving, it stalled as I was approaching a red light and applying the brake. I came to a stop, shifted into neutral and restarted it. It revved up to 8000 RPM instantly. I shut it down right away and waited 30 seconds before restarting it. This time it started up normally and drove fine. My thinking is that the car stalled because of some safety mechanism that cuts out fuel/air to the engine when an abnormal condition is detected.

I did not experience this issue again until a couple of days ago. Two days ago when I started it at home, it relined. I shut it down right away, waited one minute and started it again. It started normally and has been driving w/o any issue.

Any feedback/input is much appreciated. Can a failing throttle position sensor or crankshaft position sensor or some other sensor cause this?

First thought is the throttle position sensor.

Thank you for your responses. No check engine light and no fault code(s) logged either time. I wish it had a fault code :).
The car has 127k miles on it.

If I were you, I would purchase a vehicle analyzer from Amazon that shows live faults as well as fault codes. They are cheap on Amazon. Keep it hooked up for numerous starts and stops so possibly you can see "Live" what is happening. I'm guessing you shut the vehicle off when the tach goes "Berserk"?

That's what I plan to do. Yes, I did shut it down right away when when the tach went "Berserk" because the car was sounding like a plane at take off.
