  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My 2013 started to stutter on the highway. i thought i may of got bad gas. then it died on me pulling into the driveway, it will start right back up though.
now it dies when slowing down and has an intermittent stutter when driving. Any idea's?
thank you in advance.

Run some Seafoam heavy duty fuel cleaner through it (drive it at highway speeds for a while)?

Bad fuel, water contaminated fuel, a dying fuel pump... and many other things can cause such symptoms. Even a bad gas cap - if the spring-loaded valve inside the gas cap fails then air can't get into the fuel tank as fuel is burned. Eventually the vacuum level that builds up in the tank is too much for the fuel pump. Normally this takes quite a bit of continuous driving to manifest - you have to burn a fair bit of gas before the vacuum builds up to troublesome levels. Dirt/debris in the fuel tank can block the pickup tube leading to fuel starvation; sloshing the fuel around (cornering, going uphill or downhill or even over bigger bumps) sometimes frees up the pickup until it sucks that troublesome piece of junk across the pickup, blocking it again.

Flaky engine sensors or wiring/connectors can do this as well. A dying crankshaft position sensor will lead to stumbling/stalling on the V8 engines... and may not cause check-engine OBID-II codes. If the sensor is bad while trying to start the engine, that will set the code.

Dirty fuel injectors that don't open all the way or stick shut sometimes will cause these symptoms; Seafoam can help. Injectors that don't close fully - letting excess fuel into the cylinder - will also such symptoms. Hyundai sells a small plastic bottle of "fuel system cleaner" - which is just the Chevron Techron fuel cleaner sold in Chevron gas and in bottles at auto parts stores - pour one bottle into a nearly full fuel tank and see if that makes a difference. If the performance improves - even if it doesn't fix/cure all issues - that strongly hints of dirty/sticking fuel injectors.

Air leaks anywhere in the intake manifold can cause all sorts of goofball conditions. What I do to search for leaks is get a spray can of carburetor cleaner (any auto parts store) and, while the engine is warmed up and idling with the big plastic engine cover removed (it simply pulls straight up), spray the big air hoses, the black plastic intake manifold, along gaskets, along vacuum hoses, etc. The idle will change - better or worse and you'll hear the RPMs change for a moment - whenever you spray a leaking area.

A failing transmission can screw up the engine too - putting too much drag load on the engine especially when the engine is at idle.

Obviously not a simple "here's what's wrong" situation unfortunately.

Check engine light on? If so, what are the codes?

No check engine lights.
Thanks for the info.
I will keep you guys updated once it's figured out.

I changed the crank sensor! Worked good for a few days, now starting again. Dies when turning or braking!
