Just over a year ago I had all but decided on a Genesis. After spending probably two days test driving numerous cars I stumbled on a 2006 CPO BMW 750LI. Now that I've put 20,000 miles on it I feel pretty confident I made the right decision for myself at this time considering the cost of the BMW was the same as a new V8 Genesis.
I still find myself coming back to these forums though because I think the Genesis is an incredible concept. It addresses what I think many people want in a big luxury vehicle without wasting a lot of money on gratuitous items. However, it wasn't right for me, because some of those items it was missing were deal killers and the BMW 7-series delivered them. These may be trivial to some, but they mean something to me, items like better seats! I find the Genesis seats to be just about the worse I've ever experienced. They have way too much cushioning and I think help exaggerate the suspension issue many have mentioned. The power trunk is something else I use every day that wasn't found on the Genesis. My BMW comes with a rear seat DVD display which is great for the kids. I don't think that option exists on the Genesis.
Ultimately, I could probably go on and on here. The irony is I initially came back to this forum to post something in the Genesis forum offering reasons why I went with a BMW instead of a Genesis. Lo' and behold it is almost as if Hyundai listened to every one of my concerns and bundled it in to the Equus and then some! So for me this is pretty exciting. From what I've read so far it really looks like it will give the luxury market a run. I do think they've gone a little too far in some areas, but I guess that is better than falling short. Personally, I think the rear seat recliners are just a gimmick and can't really be enjoyed in the manner in which I think some people think they will, but I will need to try them before making a definitive judgement.
It looks promising Hyundai! I'm excited to test drive one and hope the cost can be brought down to really segment it away from the Lexus LS and BMW 7-series.
