Just wanted everyone to know that we picked up a set of SMA coilovers this afternoon.
Having had experience with many different coilovers (either owning or testing someone else's car), I should be able to give a good assessment of the characteristics of the coilovers when handling on the track. the list of coilovers i have had experience with: Tein, H&R, Tanabe, KW, BC, Megan, D2, KSport...yes I have actually tested and used all these either through canyon carving, autocross, or road course.
I'm actually very excited about these coilovers. When I visited Korea a while back, people I met raved about the SMA brand, how its able to provide great comfort (OEM level) at the soft dampening level and great handling at even just 8 clicks in. Imagine what all the way would feel!
I'll be providing measurements and installing how-tos as soon as I can get my suspension guys to help me out. Picture galore will be taken, and as soon as I can get on a track, pictures and video.
From the specs that I read, these coilovers will be perfect for the majority of people. It is mainly for those who do extremely spirited street driving to those who do weekend track warriors. It falls well within Redline Time Attack's Street Class specifications, where most people will be at.
some more info before I do the install. SMA was the first coilovers to be created for the Genesis Coupe. It is used on cars from normal street cars in korea to highly turbocharged cars from Autz (refer to the 500 ps genesis). The shock body is larger than stock. This is to be more sturdy and be able to take harsher conditions than just stock. This, however, also reduces the clearance between the front wheel and the coilovers. this is resolved with a wheel spacer or a different wheel.
The spring rates i got was 12 front 8 rear. pillowball fronts, with camber adjustment. i hope to install as soon as possible. gonna test it out on a track
I want to thank Paul at USAutotek for giving me a good deal.
