  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello all,

I'm trying to figure out if the ESC system on the genesis sedan works the same as the genesis coupe?

What I mean by this is that, is the ONLY thing it does is interrupt throttle when it senses the car slipping?

If so I'm thinking about just disabling it and leaving it that way, because in my old genesis coupe I found the invasiveness of the ESC to be more dangerous than helpful. I'm more than capable driving in rain/snow and know when is too much throttle, so if that's all it does, I have no reason for it.

Everything we've discovered about it, leads to be quite a complicated system. It is DEFINITELY far more intuitive than the system the Coupe has. In leaving it 'on' I have yet to come across the situation where TCS/ESC is trying to kill me, like it did in my BK1.

With it on, it does it's best to control wheel slip and you cannot do a burnout. With it off, you can get sideways some (It will still intervene) and you can do a burnout. Blood Type Racing says they have defeated ESC in their tune for the 4.6, no further details on the effects.

Now the differential is an open diff, but the ABS module intervenes and makes it "electronic limited slip" by alternating brake pressure from side to side in the rear. This part has not been cracked by any tuner and even a Hyundai GDS is locked out from making changes to the module. Similar to how BMW does in all of it's non-M models.

The carrier is the same as the Coupe, so if you want to pick up a Quaife, Kaaz or Cusco LSD for the Coupe, you can put it in the Sedan. My predictions are the results will be in line with what BMW owners get when they put in an LSD, that the electronic nanny interferes far less.

Awesome thanks for all the details.

I definitely would like to eventually get a true LSD but for now I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't be the end of the world if I did the ESC trick and just left it that way.

At first it was because I just wanted to be able to do some powerslides whenever I felt like it but now it's because that damn throttle control comes on really early on in turns causing me to not be able to get on the throttle when I'd like to.
