If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi, guys. I've been listening to some of my exhaust clips and there's a noticeably unpleasant sound I'm getting on hard revs, cold or warm, that has me concerned. I've tried listening to some youtube clips of similarly sized engines that have exhaust leaks and I'm somewhat convinced I have something going on to that effect.

I had a similar feeling when this same setup was on my V6 and took it to my mom/pop exhaust shop and they said there was no leak, but tightened up my Magnaflow clamps anyways to be safe. I'm thinking at some point I may just have them weld everything together for peace of mind.

Can someone with more experience in these matters take a listen to this clip and let me know your thoughts? It happens during the harder revs and kind of a raspy undertone to the otherwise mellifluous sound of the V8. Is this a normal sound of the '12 V8 with an open exhaust?

I can tell you that I bought a used set of MSA cat deletes and after I had them installed the installer stated that the flanges didn't line up 100% which resulted in a small exhaust leak. I haven't had time to see if I can have them adjusted but I do hear the exhaust leak. It's most noticeable with the windows down with other vehicles/buildings next to my car and it makes a ticking sound. If I didn't already know to expect an exhaust leak I'd think it was the engine, injectors, etc. I used brand new exhaust gaskets and the MSA's being used wouldn't really alter their shape in any way so I'm a bit surprised to have this leak. Hopefully I can deal with it in the next few weeks.

Well does the sound of my exhaust resemble what you're hearing on yours?

Sounds fine to me. Usually an exhaust leak will make a ticking noise. After driving for a few days take a look under the car you will be able to see if there is an exhaust leak (pipes will have black on them).

Exactly. Look for soot at the flanges. Telltale sign.

It's a bit hard to tell based on the video. I'm not hearing the ticking but it would be most noticeable from the side of the car as recording from the rear means the muffler exhaust note can overpower other sounds.

I'm running a similar exhaust setup, now just past 6 years, I do not have any ticking as your video displays. I also do not have a GDI engine, but I don't think it's your engine, I think you have an exhaust leak. Check it out and get back to us.

I took a quick peek under the car. It looks like there is soot around the clamps that hold the Magnaflow CBE components together, particularly the mufflers at the rear. It would appear I just need to weld these pieces together.

I picked up a container of exhaust weld from AutoZone this afternoon and applied it liberally around all of the joints. Letting it dry overnight and then I'll try it tomorrow.

I applied the exhaust weld goop and let it dry overnight. Not really a change as it still has that slight tinny sound at high revs ever when fully warmed up. Maybe it's the just how this model Magnaflow exhaust sounds naturally on this engine?

I'll try adding a bit more of the sealant again this week. Aside from that I guess I'll live with it. No one else thinks it sounds bad so maybe I'm just being a bit anal retentive since its my own vehicle.
