  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

One hour into highway driving in my G70, the fasten seatbelt light warning and sound go off. Checked my seatbelt and it was fine- re clicked it anyway a few times About a minute later the seatbelt warning light went off but the airbag warning light went on. Pulled off the road and removed a 30 pound suitcase that was on a rear seat. Started driving again and the airbag light remained on but went off about a minute later. This was yesterday and there have been no further problems after another four or five hours of driving

Could the 30 pounds on the seat have triggered these problems? Could it be just some sort of a circuitry blip? Hate to drive hundred miles to my nearest authorized Genesis dealer for diagnostic check

When mine was new, my wallet on the passenger seat would set it off. It's settled down a little since then.

are you serious?
many people, like me, always have one or 2 pounds of stuff on the front passenger seat.
does this still make any sense that the airbag warning light remained on for one or two minutes AFTER I moved my briefcase to the trunk?
Computers often have glitches some wondering if that's all this was

I found it really annoying. It helped having people ride in my car -it's not as sensitive now. Mine usually takes about 20 seconds to figure out the weight is gone after move stuff off the seat.

did it set off the seatbelt light or the airbag light?
Still don't understand what happened but like I said I hate to drive 100 miles to the nearest Genesis dealer.

I don't really remember - I think it was complaining that it detected an unbelted passenger.

The sensors are sensitive and I had the same experience as above. This seems to be the case with HMG vehicles. Our Hyundai Ioniq is also sensitive but not as much as it was when new.

bouncing weight on the passenger seat like a briefcase or books or whatever can cause the weight calibration to be wacked, might need to have a dealer recalibrate the seat, should be covered under warranty.

the whole point of it is to prevent the airbag from being active if there is a rear or front facing child seat in the front passenger area, (stupid idea in the first place to put a child seat there but that's a whole other topic).

any weight that moves or bounces can screw up the calibration. always best to put your stuff on the passenger floor, plus it is less likely to slide off the seat and damage the dash if you have to make a quick stop or maneuver. Personally I find the rear seat the best place for my laptop bag, same side as me and I buckle it in so it doesn't move about, plus no worries about stupid weight sensors and airbags.

Air bag problems are serious. You really need to take it in and let them scan it. Definitely do not want a accident that the bags fail & someone is injured and they find out you had a warning that you failed to have diagnosed.
Could just be a sensor that's not secure plugged in but airbags are so thought out that it is more than likely a problem, although minor. Also you said weight on REAR seat and responders to this posting starting talking about stuff on passenger seat. NOT related.

I am not sure what kind I car you have but I will assume you have a G80 maybe.
On 10/3/18 I had to take my 2018 Genesis G80 base to the dealer for an update #002G. It was for the
seat belt system but that is all I know. It didn't take long to do so we waited for it.
Wouldn't hurt to call the dealer and see if they know anything about it.

I just had my seat belt light and sound go off on me while driving last Thursday. No one and nothing on the passenger seat and my 2 daughters in the rear. I had my seat belt on so wasn't sure what was happening. I stopped, unbuckled and re-buckled. The sound went away but the light kept on flashing. I turned off the ignition and restarted the car and everything was fine after that and hasn't happened since. No airbag light warning for me though, just the seat belt warning flashing with the sound at first. I have a 2020 G70 3.3 Sport.
