  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My factory warranty runs out in 6 six days (in years - I'm at 31,300 mile) and I received this quote from the dealership:

Here is the information you requested on extended warranties on your 2011 Hyundai Genesis with approx 29500 miles.

7 years from date of warranty purchase or 100,000 miles on the odometer $1468.00

6 years from date of warranty purchase or 100,000 miles on the odometer $1423.00

5 years from date of warranty purchase or 100,000 miles on the odometer $1375.00

all of these warranties are exclusionary comprehensive...which means they are bumper-bumper warranties by which we tell you what is excluded from
coverage as opposed to telling you whats covered...the list of exclusions are mainly maintenance items...brakes, pads, rotors, fluids, filters, glass, cosmetic items

If you have any questions or want to come by and finalize the warranty coverage...let me know.

Thanks,

Which one should I go with? I'm leaning towards the 7 year 100,000. And I specifically asked the question of when the start date of the extended warranty is and he told me it begins from the day I purchase it.

Make sure whatever you get is a Hyundai factory backed protection plan (I recommend Platinum). Anything else is, IMO, closer to a scam than a warranty.

With that, verify the deductible if you might have to ever take it to another dealer (you can pay higher rate for $0 originating-dealer-deductible, or lower for $100 non-originating-dealer-deductible).

And if you're in Florida, then it's treated like insurance: price is fixed, but you can cancel for a pro-rated refund so there's really no "risk" of going with the longer period/miles option. But those prices are a $1000-ish lower than Florida rates, so you're probably not.

Pick one and then go pay yer money and take yer chances.

You can purchase an official Hyundai Platinum Extended Warranty from any Hyundai dealer, even on the phone. There are some other threads that discuss which ones offer good deals, so I would get another quote. If it is an official Hyundai extended warranty, any Hyundai dealer will see the warranty coverage in their Hyundai supplied computer systems.

If you are the original owner, then you already have a 10 year - 100K drivetrain warranty that covers engine and transmission. If you purchased used, then it is only 5 years or 60K miles, unless it was a CPO vehicle. If you have the Technology Package, then there are definitely some expensive things that can break.

The quote is from the hyundai dealership

But that doesn't mean that they are selling a Hyundai extended warranty. A large number of dealers do not offer the Hyundai extended warranty because they make more money selling other brands. Check it out thoroughly to ensure that you understand what you are buying. I don't agree that all non-Hyundai warranties are scams, but Caveat Emptor!

By the way, you CANNOT buy a warranty over the phone because your older car will have to be physically inspected by the dealership to qualify for the warranty.

Not only do some dealers sell warranties from 3rd parties not associated with Hyundai Motor America, some of them sell their own warranty which is only honored at their dealership.

Also, some of the non-Hyundai extended warranties may require that all service be done at the dealership where you bought the warranty, so make sure about that.
