  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Its been little over 3 years since I bought my 2015 Genesis 5.0 :)
So far no issues (fingers crossed). I just replaced my tires on the car today and put on Continental DSW06 after thorough research on this forum. I am liking them so far. Tomorrow, wheel alignment will be done!

I have been thinking about extended warranty for the last month or so. Some people even told me to get one before 3 year expiry to get it cheaper.
1. Does Hyundai sell extended warranty?
2. Do you recommend purchasing extended warranty?
3. Can i buy the Hyundai warranty online or only through dealership?
4. I know FCA sells warranties for their vehicles which are "maximum care". Is there something similar in Hyudai world?

There’s HPP thread which is the Hyundai product. You can buy it online through a dealership. I don’t believe that Hyundai sells it directly. I personally recommend it if you can get a good deal on it due to potential short lived Head Unit.

1. Hyundai does sell an extended warranty. Though I'm not sure how it works if you're trying to buy one "after the fact". The only experience I've had with extended warranties was purchasing them either at the time of the car purchase or shortly after (in the case of my recent CPO purchase).

2. If you can get one, I would (and did). But only a Hyundai warranty and not a third party one.

3. Fairly certain you have to buy through a dealership. If you are indeed eligible to buy a Hyundai warranty, call many dealers for the best price.

4. For CPO vehicles it's called the Platinum plan. There's Gold and Platinum. Again, I'm not sure how it is if you're trying to purchase an extended warranty a few years after buying the car.

I'd just call Hyundai. Any time I've talked to them they've been very knowledgeable and helpful.

If possible, can you provide hint from which dealership you bought it from. I'm having hard time anyone providing me quote below $2k with still one year of original warranty left on the car. Greatly appreciated.

To the topic, once the dealership punches in the VIN, Hyundai's system tells which HPP warranty is available. Somehow it varies from dealer to dealer and I'm not sure why. May be profit margins are different and dealers don't say the truth about the system's output.

I'll send you a PM.

Again, it's possible the warranty price is commensurate with age/miles already on the car. In other words, you may already have several issues wrong with the car totaling $6k (which actually wouldn't be that hard on a Genesis), and just buy an extended warranty for $2k and get them all fixed. Not a good business strategy on Hyundai's part. I'm honestly surprised that any dealers are willing to do it at all without an inspection of the car first. Then again, the dealers just charge warranty work to Hyundai so it may not be that big of a deal to them. I don't know...

Also, you're correct that the Hyundai system tells which warranty is available. However, I found several dealers in all the calling around I did who had warranties much different than the standard 10 year/100K or 10 year/120k mile CPO warranty. When I talked to Hyundai themselves, they said that the 10/100 and 10/120 plans were really the only ones for a CPO car, yet some dealers were trying to sell more expensive plans for less coverage. Now, that may be much different in your situation since you're not dealing with a CPO vehicle. Still, my guess is that dealers are trying to stick it to whoever they can for more profit.

I was quoted over $3k for a 2015 cpo extended warranty at purchase last year which I thought was steep. Need to shop for one before the 5/60 expires.

Was that an actual HPP warranty from Hyundai? That price sounds like the dealer was trying to sell you a third party warranty. Fun fact, many dealership owners actually own the third party warranty brand they try to push on you. Lots of profit there when there's so many loopholes to get out of having to repair something. Several of the dealers I spent a lot of time talking to over several weeks (months) of shopping said the owner was the proprietor of the third party warranty.

I believe it was a private warranty as it covered the head unit and electronics. And they tried to package it with other private coverages for tires wheels even body and finish.

Does the HHP warranty cover the head unit after 3/36 and all electronics? I will be shopping for one since we plan on keeping the car.

The HPP CPO warranty covers the head unit. I'm just not sure what the rules are with regards to purchasing a CPO warranty that far after you bought it. The dealer I got my warranty from was quite adamant that I send the CPO checklist right away (I purchased my car two weeks before the warranty but hadn't taken delivery of it until I got the warranty). Hyundai Corporate also said there couldn't be a large time gap between the car purchase and warranty purchase, though they didn't give a specific time frame. I'd call them and get an answer straight from them. 1-800-477-8089
