If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I own a 2011 3.8 sedan with Nav Pkg. With ever increasing frequency when I start the car, instead of getting the navigation warning (or the rear camera display when placed in reverse), the display just shows the Genesis logo. Pretty but not very useful. The radio display works OK when I select it. The Genesis logo will stay on the display until turning off the engine. Usually, turning off the engine and quickly restarting won't fix it, but restarting the car after a ten or fifteen minute delay often does result in normal operation. So, anyone know what's happening? Is there any way to reboot the system without turning off the engine for fifteen minutes? Is there a permanent fix short of taking it to the dealer and paying $1000? I suspected when I bought a car with so many electronic doodads that something like this was inevitable. This doesn't happen with my 1970 MGB.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Dealer will probably want to change out head unit at a cost of $3K plus labor.

Not sure if it is the same condition, but my 2013 DIS system does the same thing, sometimes. It tends to happen if I start the car and very quickly put the car in reverse rather than waiting a few seconds (you know, while putting on my seat-belt, or putting down my computer bag, or something). I have found that if I push the screen off button (to the right of the CD/DVD slot) two times, the screen will come back on again. Not sure if the 2011 touch-screen nav has that button.

On occasion, my screen does the same thing (2013 DIS). By occasion, I'm talking 3 times in the past year. Turning the car off and back on resolves it.

This is probably something that won't be entirely resolved with updates. I just chalk it up to part of the Genesis character.

You might want to try a new car battery. In other makes, these symptoms are caused by a battery nearing its end of life. I suspect the same with our cars.

Amazing! I came to the board to look up the same problem, same vehicle, same package. Except mine seems worse - the system continuously reboots the whole time the vehicle is in operation. I've had to cut a piece paper to cover the screen to avoid the distraction while driving.

I've had it do these hiccups on rare occasions (I am original owner) in the past, but it's just gone crazy now. Maybe someone will post a fix. Other than that, I dread going back to our sole dealer to learn whether warranty (5 years runs out in a few months) will cover it.

BTW, my rear boot joints are shot at 47k miles . . creak, groan . . . almost sounds like my knees when I get up in the morning.

I have the same symptoms in my 2011 3.8w/nav. My backup camera doesn't always work; I "jiggle" the shift lever and the camera responds. Is there any connection in this area that might cause the head unit problems?

My 2010 DIS gets the same hiccup once every few month. I pull the 3 DIS/ AC/ radio fuses and put them back after about 5 minutes and all seem to be good after.

Update to my previous post about my AV/DIS system constantly rebooting:

After not starting the car for about 36 hours, I pulled the AUDIO fuses one at a time for about 30 seconds each. Started on passenger side (1 fuse), then to drivers side (2 fuses). When I started the car, the system booted just fine and has been ok for 3 days now.

I'm guessing this rebooted the system? The problem started after hitting the DIS knob too soon upon start up. Seems to be a pattern mentioned by other users.

(I considered disconnecting the battery, but then you have to reset the sunroof, the power windows, and entire AV system according to owners manual)

I think I have a pretty good idea why this is happening. I have the same year/vehicle. I noticed that if I have Pandora open (doesn't have to even be playing) on my phone, it will cause the screen to malfunction and get stuck at the Genesis Logo screen. I think it automatically tries to start the stream before connecting to bluetooth and causes something to go haywire.

There were a couple of times where I would be streaming Pandora and then I turned the car off. The next time I started my car, regardless of how long its been (sometimes hours), it will cause the screen to get stuck at the Genesis logo.

I came here looking for answers to solve this issue so I had to post here since you are seeing the same behavior.

In my girlfriends Mazda 6, if she has spotify open in the background, it will automatically start playing music after her bluetooth connects. This is how it SHOULD work imo, but it doesn't in mine

Do you all have any music streaming app open on your phone when attempting to connect to bluetooth in your car? I've made sure to have all my streaming apps closed when getting in my car and haven't had any issues with this since.

I've been looking around for solutions and was hoping there would be a software update of some sort that would fix this issue.

Your radio/nav warranty is only 3/36,000, so you likely are already SOL. This is just one more reason why many folks buy extended warranties. Bought my extended warranty before 3 years expired. It goes for 10/100,000 from the warranty purchase date. The warranty may outlast me.

Many of the things on the Genesis are so damn expensive that an extended warranty should be almost mandatory. I wouldn't even recommend buying a "used" Genesis unless it was a CPO, with the new car warranty.
I might be tempted to skip the extended warranty with the base model, but not with the Premium or Tech packages.

Totally agree. With the (lack of) reliability of just the head unit (replacement cost of around $3k), a $1200-$1500 warranty is a bargain.

It would be interesting to know the failure rate of the head units on the Genesis. It's possible that it still might be very low. Back in the day, if a radio failed, it might cost you $100-$200 to replace.

Even with an Extended Wrap Around Bumper to Bumper warranty on my certified Genesis I am SOL. Multiple dealers are telling me it's major mechanical only and a complete failure is required. That's not what the warranty reads, but it's not worth the paper it's written on if Hyundai won't stand behind it. My Nav runs the Genesis logo ~80% of the time, taking out my backup camera and on screen radio interface with it. Still they will not replace it because upon reboot it works once or twice. From trying to get Hyundai to honor their warranty and my reliability with my Genesis, I think I'm done with Hyundai. Too bad, my 2006 Azera was a perfect ownership experience. Same dealers, completely different experience with the Genesis.

I'm not sure which warranty you purchased, as Hyundai dealers offer both their own and 3rd party warranties. Sounds like you do not have the Hyundai Protection Plan Platinum warranty, which is *the* warranty recommended to purchase.

If you do have that particular warranty, and dealers are not willing to replace your head unit, open a case with Hyundai corporate. It is unacceptable for the head unit to work just 80% of the time. You could ask the dealer if it is ok to pay your repair bill 80% of the time.

Thank you for your reply, yes, fortunately I did purchase the Hyundai Platnum warranty. I am going to try another dealer. My Genesis is having so many problems the dealer in Escondido is unwilling to fix that I'm thinking of trading it off. I had a flawless ownership experience with my 2006 Azera. I have since moved and I'm therefore using a different dealer. I'm going to return to the dealer in Carlsbad to see it that makes a difference. They know me there so hopefully they will address the issues under the warranty.

I have the same problem. How was the problem with the restarting system resolved?

I have been experiencing this occasionally. I have a 2011 3.8l sedan and it does get stuck on the genesis logo occasionally but more recently the entire infotainment screen has been restarting constantly. Today I reset the head unit through the dev mode and have yet to see if that helps. But yeah. It will restart every 1-2 minutes while driving and it’s sooooo annoying.
