Well, after what seems like a very long road, I'm finally getting rid of the Genesis. A beautiful, well appointed vehicle for its price range. Very close to meeting my needs, but it's just not for me. A Lexus dealer has accepted my offer for trade on a new LS460. I should be picking it up tomorrow.

Just wanted to extend my thanks to all of the helpful members on this site - some heated discussions for sure at times, but that's to be expected on an enthusiast site. Best of luck to you all and I've gained more experience than I'd hoped by completely rebuilding the suspension on the Genesis myself - if I can be of any help to any of you in the future, please feel free to e-mail me through these forums.

Also - I have the Genesis "winged" air bag assembly (brown), front LED door sill plates, two NIB OEM oil filters and the "Car of the year" license plate frame - all in new condition. If anyone wants these, please feel free to shoot me an offer.

I assume you sills are brown. Do you have the left over real coil springs? mikght like the sill, coils, filters but not the Air Bag (Sorry) or the plate frame.

best wishes, I think the LS is a beautiful car. Just curious, but if the Equus was available (I think it will be a more direct competitor), how tempted might you be to make that trade instead?

I just got back to the hotel from the dealer. I'll preface this by saying there's a significant price difference between the two vehicles, but as I pulled up in the Genesis, it was pouring rain. A well-dressed gentleman sprinted from the dealership and opened an umbrella as I opened the door. They introduced me to the management team, brought me beverages, presented me with all of the Lexus propaganda - went through a thorough PDI with me and all of the other frills you'd expect. The Lexus experience, for me, was likely my best experience to-date.

The car itself -- on the surface, it's shockingly similar to the Genesis (or rather, vice-versa.) Hyundai definitely took some Lexus cues (which isn't necessarily a bad thing!) Once you're in it, the difference between the two becomes clearer - the quality, fit and finish of the materials is quite amazing (and so is the $25k price difference!) Very simple and intuitive, much like the Genny. Where it really shines is in the little details -- the headrest is very plush, the knee bolster / console sides are like pillows (nice for those long legged folks like myself), seat extension, multitude of lumbar positions, power seatbelt adjustment, etc. The ride is of course a totally different experience -- apart from the Dunlops (I can't seem to escape those freaking things!) It's unbelievably quiet inside. The ride is comfortable, even on some of the daunting roads in the DC area. It's well controlled -- there's enough steering feedback that you don't feel completely disconnected, but nothing more - it's the perfect amount for me. It is a little clumsier in terms of handling than the Genesis - but the trade-off is obviously vastly superior ride quality. I'm not sure if you love the Genesis suspension/handling that you would feel the same about the LS460.

Tons of gadgets I'll probably be discovering for months. I haven't had the guts to use the self-parking feature yet though... it's going to take a while before I put THAT much faith in Lexus.

For what it's worth - the sales manager, sales rep and business manager all really liked the Genesis - they asked if I'd give the sales reps a tutorial of sorts. They're going to keep it on the lot.

As for the Equus. If the price was below $60k and I didn't have to deal with Hyundai dealers - yes, it definitely would have been a consideration. At $60k or above and with the existing dealer network, it wouldn't be worth it to me personally. I'd rather pay a bit more and get a proven platform with proven service. Maybe in a few years.

Overall, very pleased with the purchase -- will be more so once the panic attack from the sticker shock wears off!

By the way - the door sill plates and oil filters are sold. I left the license plate frame in the trunk for the next owner (I'd appreciate it if I were the buyer) -- but I do have the air bag (beige) if anyone is interested.

My Lexus dealer was pretty good, but they always seemed to be reluctant to give out loaners and I had to fight them to get a new wheel when they scratched it going through their car wash (my car had less than 5k miles on it). Like everything else, your experience may vary. Still, there is little doubt that the average Lexus dealership is significantly better than your average Hyundai dealership.

That right there makes me feel they're a bad Lexus dealership.
