If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I posted this info as a reply to an ongoing conversation in another thread but I thought this deserved a thread of it’s own. As a owner of a 2015 3.8 Ultimate with the 9.2 screen the one regret I have with this car is that the car can never be updated to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Now there is a company in Korea (car4play.kr) that sells a mod kit for $437 that will update the head unit to Apple and Android. However the installation is tricky requiring taking apart the dash, adding cables to the head unit and power, etc and the company recommends professional installation. To my knowledge no shop in the US has even done this install yet so finding a shop willing to undertake the installation would be difficult to say the least.

Installing this modification sounds like a potential nightmare as the electronics in this car especially the audio head unit are already iffy and prone to act up. I just wonder what taking things apart in the dash could do to the already delicate electronics. My car is still under a HPP warranty for three more years so I would never attempt a mod like this as I know it would void the warranty. But even if I didn't have a warranty I would be very hesitant to do the mod.

However I just came across a far better solution and cheaper solution. It's not as good as having Apple or Android working on the 9.2 screen but it's a good alternative. It's available on Amazon and it has a 7 inch screen and can be mounted on your dash with a suction cup. It can be connected to your cigarette lighter for power and a 3.5mm aux port for audio.

In addition to running Apple CarPlay and Android Auto the unit can mirror what's on your phone screen.

Here is a link to a review of the unit.

Here is a link to the unit on Amazon. There is a $100 coupon bringing the $369 cost down to $269. The $100 coupon may just be a Presidents Day sale only available for a limited time so if you want to buy with the $100 discount you should act quickly

It's not perfect of course but I'm willing to try it and with Amazon's 30 day return policy what do you have to lose. Another advantage of this unit is that it's portable so can be used in other cars you may have that don't have Apple or Android. My other car does have Android Auto but I can see a use for this when I rent cars as many rentals don't have Apple or Android.

The Aphqua unit arrived yesterday from Amazon. I was surprised to see that I didn't need to mount it as it fit exactly over the 9.2 screen and it was a tight fit meaning it didn't slide off when I was driving around, making turns, etc.

My initial hesitation about ordering this was I wasn't thrilled about having to mount it on the dash or window as that would look messy. But now that it fits over the 9.2 screen perfectly no need for any mounts.

True there were a couple wires hooking up to the cigarette lighter and USB so not as clean a look as stock, but since the Genesis will never be able to have Apple Carplay or Android Auto this is the best alternative out there unless you want to do a mod, tear apart the dash, etc and possibly risk damaging the electronics.

Hi, how's your experience with this setup so far?

I am looking to purchase the 2nd Gen Genesis Seden and was looking for CarPlay/Android Auto options. Since you are covering the factory screen, do you need to move the CarPlay display to use the factory screen sometimes? Or once everything is setup you don't really need the factory screen anymore?

Actually, the KPLAY unit works pretty well and isn't that tough to install - other than the fact that the instructions absolutely suck and are a bit misleading. Once I communicated with another forum member here, I realized it was shockingly simple. You just have to make sure that everything is secure & is not able to move about inside the dash.

The dash on these cars aren't that tough to take apart. If you search "navigation screen removal" for 2015 Genesis on YouTube, you'll see a guy get into the dash in about 5 min. You'll just need a trim tool for the wood/aluminum panel - everything else comes apart with phillips screws.

But you loose your backup camera and all the head unit set up screens, don't you?
