Hello All. I have read all of your posts everyday for 6 months and last week I finally took the plunge and bought a demo 2011 4.6l. It was actually a decommissioned service loaner for Equus customers and had 3500 miles on it and not yet registered as new. I got a smoking deal on it - white/cashmere.
Besides this site I also was checking out Swedespeed for info on the Volvo S60, Maxima.org for the Maxima, Acurazine for the TL, the Buick site for the GS Turbo Regal and even the Kia site for the Optima SX Turbo. Test drove some of them and others just sat in them and ruled them out. Let me say that this discussion group is the only one I have yet to see that didnt at some point degrade into your typical internet personal attack about something or other so hats off to all of you!
My plan was to buy the base V6 because I despise sunroofs and cars that have options that I will never use. That was until I heard the Lexicon stereo and at that point getting a base model was completely out of the question. I also noticed on here the biggest complaint, bigger then the suspension issue, is the transmissions on the 2012 Hyundai built transmissions. So putting together I needed the Lexicon and have no problem with the 6 speed German built ZF unit that put me into the 2011. I hadnt had a V8 since my 70 1/2 Camaro so decided to get the 4.6l.
Anyone who is on the fence about this car just go ahead and get one. I have had the car for a week and its awesome. No squeaks or rattles and smooth, smooth power. First tank of gas with 50/50 city and highway and I got 20mpg with a few WOT episodes in there for good measure. The quality on this car is untouchable in this price range.
About the suspension issue that everybody including some of the car mags mentioned. Frankly, I am not sure what the big deal is about the suspension. I have had this car on all types of roads here in Denver and have hustled it around turns to the point I need to tape the tire changing tools to the styrofoam carrying case because they were flying out. This car weighs nearly 2 tons and I am very impressed with the ride even with the stock Dunlops. Some of complained about the rear-end bobbing or a little extra movement on undulating roads but really that is being overly critical. For the money, you will not find a better car.
Again thanks to all of you and the most civilized auto forum on the internet!
