  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Went to WalMart today, and forgot where I parked the car. OK, no problem. I'll just hold the horn button down on the key fob and follow the horn sound.
Well, I held it down, and could not hear a horn sounding, so I walked around, and still no car horn. My wife said that she remembered that we parked "over there" so I walked "over there" and could see the car, so even though I could see the car, I again held the horn button down. Heard a very weak horn. Can that be? Got right next to the car and again held the horn button down, and heard the poorest excuse for a horn I ever heard. Opened car and pushed horn on steering wheel, and it was a nice loud normal horn.

The horn that sounds using the key fob is not the same horn that sounds when pushing horn on steering wheel. Key Fob horn is next to useless. This car uses two seperate horn systems.

OHHHH....it is HORRIBLE and embarrassing!!!! The Genesis actually has 3 horns!! 2 for the road and 1 for the panic button.

I had the same experience and hoped mine was defective. Judging by your comments, I guess it's the norm. I can't see the logic in making the "panic" button almost inaudible and sounding like a 1987 Pony with a weak battery.....maybe it's for those times you're so drunk you forget where you parked and don't want to attract the cops?! (kidding...please don't get MADD on my back)

Does the Genesis have a remote trunk release? If so, you can always keep a few helium balloons tied to a long cord anchored in the trunk.
Pop trunk lid...spot balloons... Easy peasy.

I use a cell phone activated smoke flare. Pretty easy installation. :p

If you've been reading the thread on the suspension issue and how more weight in the trunk improves the ride, wouldn't a few helium balloons in the trunk make the ride intolerable?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I doubt it, but if the balloons affect the ride place a few magnets along the fuel line. The weight of the magnets will compensate for the effect of helium in the trunk, improving the ride and giving you better mileage to boot... I wouldn't put magnets into the fuel tank though...

Actually, I find that magnets in the fuel tank help the Nav system identify cities much faster . . .:D

The problem with that is that, after using your "homing device", you have to go to the balloon shop to refill. How do you find your car in the balloon shop parking lot?

It could be the fact that my alarm went off in my garage (accidentally) that made it seem really loud, but it was REALLY LOUD. All my neighbors came out to see what the fuss was about. Kinda embarassing, actually. :p

I haven't tried setting it off in a parking lot with the fob, though...

Try it ShoNuff,

You will be surprised at how "muted" it is.

You don't have to chase the balloons if you keep them on a 10-15' cord tied to something in the trunk. A six-pack will do nicely. Then when you pop the trunk they will rise up enough for you to see them but they won't escape.

I agree
Tried the panick button last night in the gym parking and barely heard it
You need to be pretty closed to find your vehicule

CIAO:cool:

I wish the horn button on the fob was more recessed. Last Saturday morning I went to the kitchen (maybe a ten foot walk) and heard a horn beeping in the distance. I thought to myself, "Who's the idiot with horn at 6:00AM". Peaked through the blind to see my car (6 feet away from the window) lights a flashing. Don't how long the horn was beeping or how long my neighbors will hate me.

jabrown,

You reminded me about the time about 25 years ago, when I was living in the Rochester New York area. I had an 83 Buick LeSabre V8 that I parked outside. One winter morning, when the temperature was down about -11F, (thats 11 below) while I was cleaning up before going to work, I heard a horn blowing. Thought "what dummy is blowing his horn at this time of the morning". Looked outside, and it was my Buick. Went outside and no matter what I did, I could not get the horn to stop. What I ended up doing was to lift the hood, and pull the wires to the horns. (Horns were easy to get to back then). By the time I got home from work, the weather had warmed up enough, and the inside of the car had warmed up enough, that I connected the horn wires, and never had that problem again. I figure it was because something in the horn switch contracted enough with the cold, that it caused the horn to blow.
