  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Went past the 1000 mls mark this morning. New wheel is on, fresh alignment, life is good.
Impressions so far:
Car is awesome
Brakes are excellent , even without having done any really hard stopping (too early)
Steering, precise, bit of bumpsteer it seems, but nothing annoying. Could have been the alignment after the pothole hit. Its not a cruiser, you need to actively drive and not be a passenger.
Engine, plenty of power , rev's are 'hanging' during shifting, but if you shift quick enough you won't notice it much
Switching from premium gas to normal and back shows the big difference in power and response, normal is fine for commuting, premium is for real driving fun. Well worth the extra cost I think.
Mileage is around 23 mpg with mixed driving right now, I don't have long stretches of steady state speed.
Gearbox is good, reverse sometimes takes some effort to get in, first is a bit finicky when the car is cold. Quick and smooth shifting is possible, the clutch engages fairly late. Takes a bit of practice to shift smoothly, but then its nice.
Ride is firm, but not too harsh. On bumpy roads the car jumps a bit.
If you switch the traction control off the tail comes around easily, tires spin in first and second gear (RE92's are not high performance tires as advertised, they suck). I leave it on for now.
Sunroof is well worth the money, still have 2-3 " of headroom.
Inside is quiet once the revs are below 3k , good enough for using the bluetooth without yelling.
Stereo is hu-hum, bass is overly loud and not very precise, mids (especially female voices) are 'nasal' for a lack of a better term. Premium Sound is not the word that comes to my mind. Its ok, but not premium... Rock and Techno, Trance are ok, classic or Jazz sound bad.
Tons of room inside (i'm 6'4", 230 lbs) , 2 kid seats fit in the back without having to put the seat forward. Imagine that, a coupe for the family.

Love the looks of the car and the way it makes me feel.
Are there faster car for less money out there? Sure, but this is the right car for me.

Frank

now she's ready to rip...:D

Congratulations on your new car, Frank. Glad to hear that the wheel is sorted out. :)

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I disagree, I LOVE just cruising in this car. And the 360 watt 10 speaker Infinity system that comes in the Grand Touring is AWESOME!

Guess it depends how the roads are. Roads here are too crappy for cruising..
Flat and smooth does not apply in southeast Michigan.
And I think the stereo is not the greatest. You can hear the center speaker, if you can locate a speeaker out of a setup then thats a bad thing.
But hey, if that the only 'bad' thing I can find then it must be a pretty darn good car....:D

I own a Genesis Sedan (wanted the Coupe originally but the timeframe didnt work for me) and finally saw and test drove a Coupe. I have to say I am disappointed in the Coupe from a looks and performance perspective. I feel like the Genesis Sedan is a true luxury car and the coupe with the exception of the Genesis name does not feel like a luxury sports coupe at all.

The car is still really nice for the money, has good hp, and decent interior build quality but I personally feel like it devalues the Genesis brand. I really wanted to love this car too...

The Genesis Coupe is not a luxury sports coupe. Nice car for the money. Comparing it to a G37 or so like the car mags do it is nonsense anyways, even if they are similar in looks.
I drove the sedan (V6), the 3.8 coupe auto and the 2.0T M/T.Sedan and Coupe are 2 totally different animals. One is a nice luxo cruiser, the other a sporty coupe. Name is the same for whatever reason, but thats about it.
Coupe was more fun and a lot cheaper.
Both look and drive great, if I could I'd have one of each.

Uh, it's not SUPPOSED to be a "luxury" sports coupe. Doesn't the price tag give that away? And having an affordable 306hp RWD coupe IMPROVES the brand significantly.

I was under the impression that the Genesis represented Hyundai's luxury brand. Of course after seeing the Coupe I agree with you. In my opinion if someone wants a 300 plus HP rear wheel drive car get a BMW 335i. I know its more money, but it is clearly worth it!

Have you been in rain yet? I test drove a GC in the rain a week or so ago, and it made a lot of noise at the rear wheel wells. At first I thought it was speaker hiss.

Just got my Genesis coupe 2.0T on Thursday and i love this car.Drove it in the rain and no wierd noise.

Radio is not bad , and i love the driving position except for the head rest that should be back more.

You feel like your in a car that is worth a lot more.

Uh, okay....good luck with that.

I kinda had the impression that the Genesis Coupe was supposed to be a Luxury Sports Coupe. However, I think it may fall a bit short in the luxury department. For luxury, a G37 is the way to go - in my opinion. However, I find the Genesis Coupe to be an excellent sports car...

I agree, the G37 is more a luxury sports coupe, the Gen is more a fun sports car with a lot of features.

Bleh, I test-drove a G37 before buying my Genesis sedan and it left me wanting a lot more in the "luxury" department. It felt like I was sitting in a smaller version of a Sentra. I was quite disappointed, especially for a $50k+ (Canadian) supposedly "luxury" sports coupe. The only "luxury" in the G37 were the Infiniti name tag and the price.

The Genesis coupe is no real luxury sports coupe either but it's $10k cheaper and it has much better ergonomics than the G37.

I think the Genesis is supposed to be more in the Mustang category. It has some GREAT features, but for $30,000, I don't think it's intended to be "luxury".

It kind of straddles the line.

Glad to hear your +++ on the car, looking at one VERY soon, Like day of dealership opening soon :) hope to get a good deal to be first customer ? wishful thinking, and like everyone else says get oil change I recommend Royal purple, used it in all my cars A++

Are you offering to buy the the BMW for me?Because thats the only way it would "clearly be worht it".Every forum has a jacka$$ like you. What good does it do to come to a Genesis Coupe forum, and bad mouth the car we own.Only thing I can think of is you just like to run your mouth.

I haven't driven a coupe... I have the 4.6 Sedan/Tech. I've eyeballed the coupe a lot though since I like rear-wheel-drive stick-shift cars. Initially I was surprised at how different the coupe is from the sedan - hard to think of them as related cars based on calling them both "Hyundai Genesis" models. But if you think of "Genesis" as the future high-end brand, like Acura is to Honda, then the coupe is very similar to the original Acura Integra in concept: a sporty car without every conceivable luxury item - it's no stripper by any means, but not as luxo'ed out as the sedan. In other words, the "entry level" model in the Premium Genesis brand.

Just my guess anyway. I've been avoiding test driving a coupe because I need yet another fun car like I need another hole in my head. Given how old my other cars are though, it's probably just a matter of time...
