Well, I was getting a random "Check PSB" error message after the car warmed up after running for 10 minutes or so, which would blink quickly and then disappear and reappear repeatedly. This progressed until I noticed that while this was happening I was losing throttle response. I was getting no power when I pressed the gas pedal more than the tiniest bit. Finally decided to floor it while it was doing this to see if it would do anything. Sure enough, this triggered the traction control and auto hold to throw up error lights.
Took it to the dealer, they couldn't replicate the problem in the service drive, but upon connecting the car to the diagnostic computer found two error codes in the computer that controls the smart cruise, fuel pump, and seat belt pre-tensioners. They replaced the computer and had the car back to me in less than 5 hours. Coming from 20 years of BMW ownership, this is equivalent to parting the Red Sea. BMW would have kept the car for a week to diagnose, order the replacement computer, and program it to the car. Problem is thankfully gone.
Posting in case anyone ever has to search the forum for a "Check PSB" error message.
