  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello all.

I am looking to to buy a Genesis. Very excited about it. I am really going back and forth on a 6 or an 8. Can anyone tell me if there is a bg difference in ride quality between the two. Asisde from the obvious 60-100 difference is it worth it?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I would imagine the best way to answer that is with a test drive of both. All main issues being relatively equal the decision is subjective. In other words what are your wants and needs? It’s a fine car in any configuration.

I don't believe there is much difference in ride "quality" although the V8 feels a little more solid (heavy), but less nimble that the V6. Remember that the V8 weighs 200 more lbs (all on the front end) than the V6. If you rarely have more than 2 adults in the car, I think the V6 is more than enough power. But I would recommend that you test drive both. Also, contact your insurance agent to see the if there is an insurance difference.

Go for the 333hp and spend the difference on a wonderful dream vacation. The V6 is just super.

Either engine choices are great - For me in 2009 when I bought mine, the price difference between a loaded v6 and v8 were very small, and the V8 got options on the car that weren't available on the V6 at all, including an LSD rear diff.

Again, either engine is awesome, I'd suggest to drive both (maybe include the R Spec too?) and see what you think.

As I recall the following is not available on the V6: auto dimming rear view mirrors, chrome body side molding, lighted door sill plates, electro-hydrolic steering, and wood grain steering wheel. Also many other items are add on options, so the bottom line price difference when the v6 is loaded up like the v8 is only about $1300.00.

Thx. You guys are great. I max out options when I uy so i sounds like going for the 8 makes sense.

I think you mean auto dimming side view mirrors. All Genesis trims have auto dimming rear view mirror.

  • Wood grain steering wheel - actually plastic with wood grain. I believe R-Spec is all leather for better grip, like the V6.
  • Electro-hydrolic steering - more than a few reports of steering problems or even complete loss of steering on the V8.
  • Lighted door sill plates - can be easily added to V6 in about 10 minutes if you really want them, and while you are at it upgrade them to LED's.
  • chrome body side molding - Who cares?

Actually, I DO! That's one of four reason's why I'd kick-up to the 5.0L I think it adds a lot to the car's appearance and would cost nearly $300 to retrofit as I recall.

Purchased chrome trim from VP_SNOW on ebay. First class vendor. Shipped same day I placed order, 3 day Fed X (not snail mail like most vendors). OEM Mobis parts in sealed cartons. 15 minute removal of old trim and install of new. Looks really good on car.

Someone wanted Mobis P/N’s of chrome trim: RH 87712 3M010, LH 87711 3M010

two words VEEEE EIGHT

Drive both and the decision is no longer a consideration... yes there is that much difference in total refinement of the vehicle.

It all depends on what's important to you. I just got my V6 - and I'm more than happy with it. It's a solid ride that'll still get your ass where it needs to be in good time and more importantly - good style.!!

Although I didn't test drive anything but the R Spec, here's my thoughts.

I owned a V6 Sport sedan before buying my genny.

The V6 and 4.6 V8 share the same suspension. As stated, the V8 is 200 Lbs heavier and all in the front. This will make the front end a bit more heavy and give a bit of a handling advantage to the V6. The V8 will have more power but the V6 is no slouch at over 300 HP.

I had a G8 with a V6. It handled better than the V8 version.

The current Camaro V6 handles better than the V8 version.

That extra weight on the front end does make a difference.

So use this info when making your decission, the suspension is the same between the two. The R Spec has a little different suspension, with a lot more power. :)

gotta call bs when you say handles better what do you mean faster times in a road course? Are you saying you can take a specific turn faster with a v6 over a v8? Saying 200 lbs more on the front, well the real issue is weight distrubution how much does it change between the two? My point is you are making broad statements as fact without any data to back up. If you like the v6 great, enjoy. To say one handles better than the other without data is simply an opinion not a fact.

Maybe you should do a little more reading before posting. I own a R Spec, not a V6. ;)

And it is fact that the V6 camaro and G8 handle better than the V8. Do a little reading.

Well its kinda a known thing that less weight on the front does result in better handling. Why do you think major sportcars/exotic manufacturers like Porsche (well, now Volkswagen), Lamborghini, Ferrari, etc use mid mount/rear mount engines? Dont beat up on the guy above you unless you have facts as well. And I believe his comparison between 6 different cars (3 v6's and 3 v8's) is "data".

I have a 2009 V6 and it is quick enough for two lane passing. I drove a 2012 V6 with 333HP and it is much quicker. I've owned 396 chevys, and several other V8s and the new V6 is as fast or faster than any of them. I am sure the 5.0 and 4.6 are really quick....but how often would really need that much HP? Like the one person said take the savings and take a nice vacation.

I needed every hp my v8 genny could muster on at least 7 different almost crashes that I avoided by flooring it. Atlanta has fast and dangerous traffic.

There is nothing like the instant power and smoothness of the V8.

Yeah, love my add-on OEM chrome trim too. Next maybe I'll add a 6.0 rear badge. '-)
