If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I just got the new R-spec last week and am expecting to rebadge the car sometime this week and wanted to wash/clay/wax it this weekend to do a nice photo shoot to send to friends/family. Had a few questions and just a general request if anyone had any tips for getting it sparkling. This is also my first black car in about 10 years I had gravitated more to the "gunmetal" grey look since it was easier to keep clean. However, the Genesis just really caught my eye in black especially with the R-spec wheels. Here's my normal process...

1) Spray it down
2) Wash with Sheep Mitt and Meguiar's Gold Car Wash
3) Rinse
4) Dry with Chamios followed by a Waffle Towel
5) Use Meguiar's stuff to clean up wheels and tires
6) Clay the car if it's been a while or I notice a lot of debris
7) Either use Swirl-X or Paint Cleaner if I notice any damage on the paint (By Hand no Polisher =()
8) Apply 1-2 Coats of Tech Wax 2.0

Is this a solid system for the Genesis? Are there any good tips for the Genesis or the black car? Also I've never had a car with much chrome on the outside, do I need to do anything special to clean that or avoid applying certain steps above to the chrome bits??

Thanks for the help :)

Do not wax it before you rebadge it. The badge will not stick as well on a waxed surface. Maybe you can wax the part around the badge later.

Yea I should rebadge it monday or tuesday and will do the wash/wax routine next weekend.

Congrats on the beautiful car. I would add a dedicated Polish (Meguiars Ultimate or Ultra Finishing Polish) before Swirl-X and then add tech wax. You got the steps down pat and that black is going to shine.

Two thoughts- first wash with Dawn dishwashing liquid. It does an excellent job at giving a "clean slate" removing all the contaminants already on the car.
Second- try Zaino polishes and wax. I used to use Tech 2.0 but if you use Zaino- it lasts twice as long with better beading.:welcome:

I personally used car wash. Polishes and waxes are subjective.

If I did all that I would never drive the car. How much free time do you have in your life? ;)

I second this statement. Check out my post on detailing my black rspec here:

This was after my car was delivered to me off a truck without the dealer touching it (which I prefer as this way I am the only one working on my car from day one) and covered in road grime.

Congratulations on your car!

The reason Dawn is recommended is that it has detergents that will remove any traditional carnauba or other natural wax from a car (you should never use Dawn unless you want strip all previous natural wax). It obviously also does a good job on grease, grime, oil, and other similar things. However, Dawn will not completely remove synthetic polymer waxes such as Tech 2.0 or Zaino.

great job on your R spec, looks beautiful.. I miss my Genesis greatly.. but wife and kids are happy again (being able to shuttle 7 people around again).. maybe when the kids move out i'll get to own a car again lol...

What pads are you using? i love my lake country CCS pads..

Thanks! Took some of your advice on products to use for the polish. I also used LC pads. Considering the paint was brand new I used the black (soft) pads for both polish and applying wax. I used speed setting 5-6 on the porter cable for the polish and 3-4 for applying the wax.

I feel your pain on the loss. My wife's car is a honda pilot that holds 8 - and she uses it for carpooling kids ! But she still loves to take the Gene when she goes to work.

Cheers

New Genny owner her and first post. Although, I am new to this forum, I have been detailing my cars meticulusly for decades. I have been an avid reader of the Autopia board and if you really want in depth discussion on products go there and it will make your head spin. I have tried many of the lines discussed on the board and the products listed above. Ultimately, I love the Zaino products but they are two finicky in the humid Louisian weather and I really do not have the time to keep my car Zaino'd. Here are the products I am currently using:

Compounding: Optimum Hyper Compound
Swirl removal: Optimum Hyper Polish
All-in-one: Optimum Poli-seal
Wax: Optimum Car Wax
Sealant: Optimum Opti-Seal
Tire Dressing: 3D Ultra Protectant
Leather leaner/ Protectant: 3D Liquid Leather
Detail Spray: Zaino Z8 / And Zaino Z6
Clay: No Preference
Wash: No real preference; I typically use the High end Meguiars
Pads: LC
Porter Cable Random Orbital

I have migrated to the Optimum products because they are easy and quick and give you fantastic results. After every wash or ever other wash I will reapply the Opti-seal, then the Optimum car wax. I do this not because I have to but because it is so quick and easy to do.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions
