If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Floor wiring harness

If you rule out extreme cold temps, it would come down to the material used or contamination of wire insulation and how many times the trunk is opened. Flex any wire with a stiff insulation enough times and it will break down, and that's what's happening here. Maybe removing the anchor point to the frame could remove localized flexing.

OK, got the car back from the dealer today. After much discussion with the warranty company, they decided to cover the repair. They only authorized the wire repair, not the replacement of the harness. The tech spliced new wires on the 7 that were broken. Cost me the $100 deductible.

is it hyundai warranty (HPP or HEP)? or a third party warranty?
Happy for you that they covered for the repair. When I spoke to the local Hyundai dealer it was a straight "NO" :(

Third party warranty. AUL
The total bill from the dealer was $854
First time I ever had a 3rd party warranty work for me.

I have the problem.
My dealer asked Hyundai for the replacement harness service and Hyundai declined.
I still have HPP but Hyundai declined.

I will try to report this to government authority.

Was the damage too much to repair by splicing?
I understand why Hyundai doesn't want to replace the harness.
It's a $2000 part plus much labor. Seats, carpet, and dash have to be removed.
I didn't want my car to be taken apart like that. Worried about rattles after the job.

I believe there is now A Hyundai TSB for this wire repair.

You may be able to splice the wires back together yourself or pay a mechanic to do it. I had to repair my trunk harness recently for a inner taillight that was out due to broken wires.

Here is the TSB on how to fix the issue in post #8 of this thread.

Keep pressing them. They replaced mine under warranty, the whole harness. (This was before the TSB came out). According to the service manager, they wanted to repair it again but a Hyundai engineer insisted they replace it.

Yep it's a big job. I had to detail the interior myself after it was all put back together, had them make a couple trim adjustments and they replaced the center console cover ($$) after complaining because whatever they spilled on it ruined the leather finish.

Fun times. Fortunately, no more electrical gremlins so it was worth it.

Correct. The TSB shows how to correct issue with the taillight harness being pulled on the trunk lid by relocating it so it has more slack and how to splice broken wires.

Wires are easy to splice back together by anyone with electrical knowledge and skill; so no need for a new harness for most of the repairs regarding the trunk harness in relation to the trunk lid wire mount issue.

Does the wiring harness issue apply to 2016 model year too?

Hi, Guys.

This morning, The dealer sent me the email that Hyundai Canada ordered the wire harness replacement warranty service.
Couple of emails have been back and forth between me and Hyundai.
Even I sent the original copy of Hyundai Protection Plan which I bought at C$2500 + tax.

Yes.. Little worry about the disassembling all car component but I let the dealer proceed it.
This problem has to be fixed to drive this car couple of more years.

Best Regards, D.K

Congrats! Let us know how it works out.

The techs are great so far at this dealership. Turnersville auto mall in New Jersey. I haven’t felt ripped off yet.😂
I'm experiencing the same issue with my 2015 genesis. I'm in CT I will drive there if have to. Is this a Hyundai or Genesis dealership? Do you have their information? How is your camera working now? 2 different dealerships locally are suggesting to replace entire wire harness ugh...

I am having the same problem with my newly used. I will have to rip apart the trunk to see if this is the same issue with mine. My right side plate light, camera, and inner taillight do not work. Thank you

We are at 61k miles on our 2015 sedan and unfortunately our rear camera stopped working. The dealer took a look and said the floor wiring harness 'wore out from opening/closing of the trunk' and it will cost $5k to repair. I'm curious if this is bad luck (just out of warranty) or bad design (internal electrical component that broke 5 years in through regular use of the trunk). Has anyone else experienced this problem and does $5k seem reasonable for the repair?
For my situation, I am not even sure where to look for root cause. Thank you for letting me know.
