Getting familiar with the group...
TURIN, Italy — A 56-year-old nun got a hefty speeding ticket when her Ford Fiesta was clocked at 112 mph on the road between Turin and Aosta, Italy. The member of the Salesian Sisters claimed she and her passengers, two fellow nuns aged 65 and 78, were rushing to be with Pope Benedict XVI, who had fallen and broken his wrist while on vacation in the northern Italian region near the Swiss border.
The offending nun was quoted by the Guardian newspaper as saying, "The police were shocked to find three nuns of a certain age in the Fiesta, but we were afraid of getting there late." For her sin of commission — going 31 mph over the speed limit — the sister received a fine for the equivalent of $533 and a month's license suspension.
A commenter on the online forum Catholic Answers wrote: "Are the Salesian sisters responsible for his welfare in some way? ... If not, I hope it was a hefty fine. Nuns should know better." The Daily Mail reported that the nun plans to appeal.
