In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. How do you folks prefer to wash your car?

Foam cannon?

Foam gun?

Or two bucket hand wash w/mit?

Or a combination of some of the above?

If foam gun or cannon, what soap do you like best?

I use bottled water and cotton balls to delicately bath my Genesis. Nothing too extreme. ;)

Hello Shagnat, I use the two bucket hand wash and I am not sure if that is the best method. I have a black Genny and keeping the scratches to a minimum is quite the task. However, I highly recommend not taking the lazy approach if you are concerned about keeping the scratches to a minimum. I believe washing/drying/waxing a car should take at least a good three hours.

Equals no scratches at all

Let the foam dwell for a minute or two to loosen the dirt.
I keep a bucket of plain water to rinse the wash mitt frequently.

I'm for the 2 bucket method with Optimum No Rinse Wash & Wax and a few GOOD microfiber cloths. Can wash the whole car inside & out in about 30 minutes. Beyond that, I usually do a Mother's liquid wax job about 3 times per year. The Optimum No Rise Wash & Wax is plenty good to keep the car smooth, clean & waxed in between.

I prefer my local wash and detail shop then I bring it home and spray wax and about three times a year a good waxing with NuFinish polish.

NSXNEXT, do you use the mitt with the foam? I was under the impression the foam was to be sprayed on then rinsed off....... of course I'm a nooB at this stuff :o

homeofstone, explain what you mean by your "local wash and detail shop", please.

No worries. Everyone has to learn sometime. It's really a simple process.

Spray the foam on a dry car. The foam gun mixes water with soap and gives the car a nice foam lather. Let it dwell for a minute or two then I dunk the mitt in the jacket of water and use the wet mitt to gently agitate the foam on the car.
You should be able to foam the entire car first and still have time to hit the entire car with the wet mitt.

Its a auto wash with no brushes, only soft cloths, the attendants do a thorough vacuum including trunk, detail the dash, clean windows thoroughly and detail the wheels and tires, They also do detailing for local new car dealers, have paintless dent repair and tint shop. The question was what do I prefer. If the question was what is the best wash, then my answer would be me doing at home with a bucket and soft brush and taking about 3 hours to do it. Its easier to pay the 16.00 and its done in about 30 minutes at the car wash which is located about 10 min. from my house.

I appreciate your patience with a nooB. Thanks, a big help.

I use the two bucket method with "Grit Guards" in each with the CG microfiber wash mitt and Einszett exclusiv gloss shampoo. Then I dry the car with my battery powered or electric leaf blower and then chase remaining water with a very large microfiber towel by spotting the spots and not wiping if I don't have to. My car is almost three years old and my method has reduced the amount of micro surface scratches to nil.

Two capfulls per 4 gallons and the gloss afterwards is amazing! Low ph formula safe on all automotive finishes. Smells like cologne and does NOT suds up very much. A little goes a long way because it is very concentrated. Water just sheets off when you rinse and leaves very little water spots which is a HUGE pet peeve for me....water spots that is!

I'm pretty much an Einszett junkie. :)
