  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just curious to know if any European high end sedan drivers, and primarily those who have owned an E38, have made change to Genesis sedan. If so, what comparison can you make and what do you miss? In process of reluctanly selling my E38 and am considering the 4.6.

I had a 740iL for a while and I have a 3.8 Genesis now - it was probably among my favorite sedans in terms of sport/control/comfort. If you are okay with the tautness of BMWs and MBs you should be okay with the ride quality of a Genesis, but don't expect the athleticism of a BMW from Hyundai. Take one for a test drive and see for yourself.

Kind of what I expected. I absolutely love my 2000 740il and it is in perfect condition both in and out. Of course and as you well know, it takes money to keep it that way and I have over the years been very proactive replacing many items before they failed. I have someone who has made me offer but am suffering a bit of seller's remorse. If I just drove the car locally, I would not sell it but I often drive to 2nd residence in SC from NJ and know that an aging BMW can be problematic. Decision, decisions. Really would like to wait for the anticipated 5.0 2012.

Have you looked at the Equus Signature? It's an awful lot of car for under $60K.

Yes, looked at the Equus at the Philly Auto Show last weekend. Not prepared to spend $60K. Would like prefer to purchase a 2 year old certified BMW for that kind of money. It is about same size as my current 740il and does appears to be a nice vehicle.

Former E39 owner, and current F10 and 4.6 owner. I never would have considered a Hyundai, but 2 years ago the thought of climbing into a 328i was not acceptable to me because of the smallish nature of the car. The car has about 90% of the luxury you could ever want in a car. The small things like a heated steering wheel or automatic trunk is missing. The engine and tranny is phenomenal. Where the car falls down the most is in the chassis department where it's not really a sport sedan and not really a luxo cruiser. It's kind of a luxurious sedan with some sportiness. However, it blows away anything in it's price class. The Genesis is one of the best cars I have owned, regardless of price.

I did test drive the 4.6 and your review sums up my impression. I will certainly really miss the heated steering wheel as it is my favorite feature of the E38. I am looking forward to early release of 2012 and see what improvements Hyundai makes regarding creature comforts and suspension.

This morning I let my neighbor drive my 4.6 with tech pkg. He currently owns an SL600, a C55 AMG and a twin turbo Porsche Ceyenne. He was blown away with what I got for 38k. He thought that the firmness of the ride was just right, the power was instant and the six speed transmission was almost seamless in shifting. He was impressed and said that for a value per dollar basis, BMW and Mercedes better watch out.

Great feedback. As side note, my son's wife is currently an active Naval Aviator also. Navy LT married to Marine CAPT.

I came from 07 CL550. The Genesis is more fun to drive than that car. almost a 1/3 of the cost and that's the big draw. I wasn't willing to go large again, with the economy the way it was back 2 years ago. It's not a huge torque monster like the Germans but you're also not afraid to park it at Costco either.

CL550 is a heck of a car. I will probably still be afraid to park the anticipated purchase at Cosco... Careless folks with errant shopping carts annoy me.
