  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Boy do I feel stupid, after almost 3 years of ownership I found this that most here probably know about but figure I should mention it in case you missed it like I did. I have been struggling with voice commands on the not so great system when placing phone calls. Repeating call home several times and even getting frustrated at times. Little did I know you simply press and hold the steering wheel voice button and up comes Siri. Cannot believe I missed this, every voice command never fails now, gotta love it.

Heh! Well thank you for letting us know about this. I'm sure many people were unaware of this feature and I'm sure it works with Android Auto as well...

Isn't Siri an iPhone specific service?

Yes it is so in order for this to work you need to have an iPhone. I am not familiar with Android and what they use or if this is compatible with Android however I am sure someone will chime in to acknowledge this.

The feature can also read your Text Messages and send them as well. Simply ask "Do I have any new text messages?" If there is an unread message, Siri will read it to you and ask if you want to reply. You can ask for other information as well such as time and weather conditions. While I have not tried this, if your phone is unlocked, emails can be read and I assume responded to. However, one of the most important thing to remember while using this feature, pay attention to your driving!! There is not a phone call, text message, or email so important that your attention to your driving is put on the back burner.

That's something that I didn't know! Thanks!!

Will this work on the ultimate trim or just the lower trim models?

Mine is Ultimate so yes it works, not sure of lower trims but must assume it works there also.

I have always used the voice button on the steering wheel. What other method is there? I wasn't aware that it would read my unread text and email. WOW! Good info, thanks all.

Just like all of us however hold the voice button down and wait a little as opposed to just pressing it. Now you will activate Siri assuming you have an iPhone that is.

Siri integration is available on ALL trim models. 2015 and newer. Just hold the Voice button for more than 1 second.

For all of you that are talking about activating Siri.....does your phone have to be plugged in and/or have Apple CarPlay activated or simply just connected via Bluetooth?

I have an Android phone and know that when I have Android Auto running that this works for me (Just the "Android version" of Siri obviously). However obviously you have to be plugged in to do that. I guess I've never tried to see if it works without it being plugged in.

No physical connection required except it does need the bluetooth connection to talk to the phone. I do have Apple Car Play in my Honda Pickup truck and IMHO, Siri eyes (this is what the feature is actually called) is better as it is less intrusive. This will give you an idea of what it can do. Basically I use it mostly to place phone calls but it can really control anything on your phone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=657raMTGahM

Ok, I'll try to remember to check my car with my Android over the holiday weekend and report back if someone doesn't get to it before me.

Great tip. Thanks. You can also say to Siri, text new message and she will ask who you want to send it to, and then you dictate your message. I've had my Genesis 8 months and never knew this feature was available.

One clarification - If your Genesis does not have CarPlay, it will need to connect via Bluetooth. This is true even if you plug the phone in via USB for music.

If you have the 8" AVN 4.5 system, and you have updated to include Apple CarPlay, you can use Siri via Bluetooth,
or if you are connected via USB, Siri will work integrated with CarPlay, and will communicate via the USB cable (even if you have Bluetooth enabled on the iPhone... it won't actually connect via Bluetooth until you disconnect via USB)

Doesn't work with Google Now, it was one of the first things I tried when I got the car. Doesn't work with Cortana either.

I can say "OK Google" to trigger Google Now and it'll play back through BT but that's the best it can do.

I use Siri via Bluetooth to make phone calls. She is just as dense and infuriating in the Genny as she is everywhere else. :/ One special quirk. She won't call 911. Starts to, the drops the call. FYI.

Regarding 911, I've set 911 in my contacts under the name, "emergency" If I need to call 911, I simply say call emergency. It works, at least for me.

This works with Siri, but I could not get this to work like an Android phone.
