Found a Switchback LED turn signal for my 15 Sedan

Had my hands on my 2015 Genesis Sedan 3.8 Ultimate for around a year now and my front passenger turn signal finally went out.

Heard it’s common since they run double duty as DRLs and turn signals, and I tried these ones on Amazon that are switchbacks and didn’t require a resistor.

When I first installed it on my passenger side, they hyper flashed but when I reinstalled them while the turn signals were blinking, I’m not sure if it was the car or the advertised “sensor in the bulb” that picked up on it, but they started working regularly!

Figured I’d share as I hope these LEDs will last longer than the regular incandescent, plus the switchback functionality is a nice plus for when you’re using the auto headlights.

So did you get the switchback feature to work, seeing that our car only have 1 contact in the bulb socket, I assume you only get amber but no white ?.

I just put these in. I had trouble initially with getting the driver's side to stay powered, so I teased out the side contact on the socket a bit and that seems to have done the trick. Nice and bright, and hopefully won't have to do this again.

On 2015s, the right turn signal / DRL is wired backwards. It doesn't matter with a standard bulb, but does with an LED. If you switch the 2 wires, it will work properly.

I installed a conversion kit and the passenger side didn't work so I poked around for a while with a multimeter and noticed the polarity was reversed. Snip snip solder solder (shrink shrink) and I'm in business. I was wondering if anybody else ran into this or it was some quirk with my particular wiring harness.

Yes. I posted that issue here previously. If you know it ahead of time, it saves a lot of troubleshooting. I used an external mounted resistor to prevent hyperflashing. I found the bulbs with the built-in resistor did not work well.

Can you show me how you swapped out the wires in the plug?

Swapping the wires will work, but I always have trouble swapping them without damaging the pins. I also wanted to mount an external resistor to eliminate the hyper-flashing. I had to cut the ires anyway to add the resistor. I drilled a small hole in the plastic of the headlamp housing, ran 2 wires out through the hole for the resistor. I then sealed the hole with silicone. The resistor was mounted to the metal of the car for heat dissipation.

I've posted a write up about this several years ago. Basically you unplug the connection and slip something metal - i used a filed down nail - next to the wire pin to release them and just pop them into the other sides. It took longer to find something to release the pins than it did to do the swap. Some people have no issues with hyper flashing (I didnt) and some people do

I tried those. The bubs failed in under 90 days twice. That is when I added the external resistor and a regular LED bulb.

I did my mod with the Vleds V6 turn signal / DRL controller ,

its going over 3 years now with the switchback LEDs I purchased on ebay, the only problem I had was a burn out load resistor, that was with full time DRL, I now tend to not use the DRL full time.
