  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Year

Genesis Model Type
Genesis G80 Sport
got my vehicle registration today.

in 2015 when I bought my RCF ($80,000 MSRP) the registration for the first year was $660, 2nd year was $545, 3rd year was $395.

my 2018 Genesis was purchased BEFORE the new registration rates (thank you dumbass voters that don't read) went into effect, so at purchase it was $525.

for 2020 it is $630 because of the increase,

CA bases the license fees off of the current Fair Market Value, the current FMV on a 2018 G80 Sport is around $45,000, so my $45,000 car now costs more in registration fees than my former $80,000 vehicle did..

even my 1939 ford went from $78 to $189 this year.

Mine was $1,627.09. Colorado bases it on the MSRP and then reduces the taxable percentage each year. Some of that tax goes to schools so I guess it is not all bad.

In CT you pay property tax on your car. I bought my 2018 in October of 2017. It took them to December of 2018 to finally adjust my tax bill for an additional $453 over the $1000 or so paid on my 2015. Glad I moved out of CT. No car tax, no front license plate.

Imagine if legislators could figure out the simple economics of balancing the budget so they don't have to keep taxing the f$%k out of everyone in California. Then keep imagining because we all know it won't happen :hitfan:

I only wish the hundreds of thousands that have moved here from CA over the years would have shared your position. ;)

The state sales tax is 2.9% (localities can add their own), the income tax rate is 4.63% and relatively low property taxes so overall it is not bad.

Man that is HIGH. I'm in NJ and we have expensive...well...just about everything. But annual vehicle registration is from ~$45 to $78 depending on the car. You pay tax once on the purchase.

Now my property taxes on the other hand...yeah......................................................

I no longer feel bad about the 11% Philly lease tax that I just found out about.

In NY, where I used to live, you have to pay all the lease tax upfront, super painful. Even on an iphone lease payment plan you pay the full tax on day 1, even if you only use the phone for 1 year and upgrade after that. Such BS.
