  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

From another forum:

Hi, new here. I just wanted to share my dealership experiences.

#1 : I checked out Southwest Hyundai and they were very helpful. They let me test the car thoroughly. They did not look at me as a young kid just wanting to go joy riding. They were honest in telling me that they did not know that much about the car so I kindly educated them on some small things. They also didn't pressure me that much into trying to make a deal.

#2 : After that I checked out Freeman Hyundai in Irving because a friend of mine wanted to check out the coupe. First, it too a long time to even be acknowledged. Then I asked if we could check out the coupe. Then they gave me the whole deal that they don't want to put mileage on the car and the whole credit check thing. So I would HIGHLY NOT recommend this dealership as they were not even willing to talk about numbers. I don't remember the salesman name, but he was a shorter hispanic fellow.

#3 : I checked out Huffines in the Plano area that same day right after Freeman. Prakash was the salesman and was very knowledgeable. I still got to educate him on some of the things but he was willing to learn. He had no problem letting us drive the car. The overall experience was the best out of the three I had been to. Although I did not talk numbers I did mention that I did not want to pay more than invoice and he said we could work something out. We have yet to see because they are supposed to let me know when the get some 2.0's. Overall, good experience that I would not expect from a Hyundai dealer.

I have had a previous experience with Eckert a few years back. They let me and a friend test drive the new Sonata by ourselves when they first came out. I had to see if the quality had actually gotten better. I was impressed with the whole experience and am glad that they are giving us the deal. My target to get the coupe will be end of May, early June. Sorry for the lengthy first post, but I hope that the experiences might give some insight as to what to expect.

I purchased from Huffines (rather than in Tyler) and I was very happy with the experience.

DO watch the car prep. There were a few things they didn't do. Like- the back screen was up, they never lowered it to clean the inside glass. Minor, as were the other things prep. missed.

BTW- I bought in Plano due to the limited selection at that time in Tyler (11/08).

A lot of dealers make prejudgements before you walk in the door and it's already in their head not to let you drive. A lot of them also do not let you drive when they notice you may not be the top margin of a customer, or an impulsive buyer. With these types of people, you have to wiggle your wallet a little bit and get them "thinking" they'll get a good deal out of you, that is only beneficial to them.

Unfortunately, these type of dealers are common. While I have not test driven too many vehicles, the dealership where I initially got my Hyundai quotes let me drive the v8t and the v6 alone freely. The coupe, I actually taught the salesman that the sales manager tagged along some things. He even pulled the Coupe out of the showroom on a wet day.

That's the type of dealership I want to give my business in the long run.

We'll see how it goes in a month when I'm due on my current lease, but as much as I'd like to give this certain dealership my business, if they can't match or beat my best offer to get me in a car now, I would go to the dealer that will, regardless of anything.

Sure, it's nice and smiles and everything - I think i'd be nice to someone too if I was charging MSRP on anything. The dealer who will move inventory barely making a hundred dollars while still keeping that courtesy deserves the business.

Then again, I get pissed if I pay retail.

Wow. So Freeman did you like that? I have a test drive scheduled tomorrow. I had received an e mail from them telling me how they had the car in stock. So I told them that I would like to test drive the car but I won't be ready to buy until August or Sept. The sales guy over the internet seemed pretty cool n said it be ok to come in for a test drive. I'll come back and post tomorrow night and let u know if I got any flack. I hope not?

I went to Freeman hyundai today and had an excellent experience with my dealer. He was very nice. Informative. No b.s. Salesguy. We had an appt. Set thru e mail as I posted yesterday. When I got there we shook hands. And he asked me what I wanted to test drive. The four or 6. I said the 6 cuz I want the track model. But I'm in a wheelchair and need the automatic. He let me install my controls. I had to drive the gt cuz they only had the track manual. As I said in my last text. He knew I wasn't going to buy till summer. But I got a cool 30 minute ride in a hot red grand touring. Which was an exhilarating drive. Hyundai took it there with this car and won!!! He gave me all the literature. Explained warranties financing and what the purchase experience should be like when I'm ready. Let me look over 2 more cars I opened them got in n got a feel. (both track models). He was a great salesguy. His name is DAVID ZERTUCHE (972-445-2121 @ Freeman Hyundai in Irving. Here are some tips when window shopping. Set up the appts online. Stress u r shopping and only want to test drive. If they are cool with it. Proceed. Once you get there. The only thing they should want to see is your license. If they try to credit check you or make you apply for a loan just walk out. Don't even talk numbers till after the test drive. Don't give them the opportunity to set u astray from ur goal. Always be confident and let them know you know the price. Do your research. Never ask. Tell them. If they give a higher number than msrp. Ask where they got those figures from. A fair deal is 3 to 4% over invoice. 1 to 2% over invoice are great deals. Under 1. You rob them. Over 4. They Robbin you! Lol. Sorry for this long e mail but I hope you find it informative. And lastly. The grand touring was a blast to drive. The handling was out of this world for the price range. I have driven many sports cars in my years. My favorites being the 93 rx7 and 06 g35. The genesis fits right in the happy median of the 2 but with BMW like handling. Its unique. Once inside it. Its hard to really compare to other cars. It has its own character though you might get lil flashbacks from the best in certain cars. And the interior is far from cheap. For those in other blogs that have said. Go to the dealership and sit in one b4 commenting. The pics online don't even come close to the real deal. Happy shopping to everyone.
