From engine idling to accessory position

I've had my new 4.6/Tech for three weeks now and am still finding new features and buttons, even though I have read both user's manuals cover to cover. And I've learned tons of info by spending hours on this forum. But I've not been able to figure out how to go from the engine idling with the transmission in Park position directly to the accessory position without first shutting everything down, then having to push the Start button again without my foot on the brake. I'm sure there is a simple answer, but I've been unable to find it in the operator's manual, nor have I been able to figure out the process on my own. And a search for "accessory position" on this forum yielded zip. I'm finally at the point where I'm willing to suffer the embarrassment of what I'm sure is a simple answer by posting the question. Perhaps you're right, that it can't be done like it can with a mechanically keyed ignition. I've had occasions where I've gone to pick someone up and planned to sit in the car and listen to the radio or iPod while waiting for them. Rather than let the engine idle and unnecessarily burn some dead dinosaur juice, it would be nice to be able to go directly to the accessory position without shutting everything down and forcing the seat and steering wheel motors to cycle twice in order to power up the audio system. While I can turn off the easy access feature so those motors don't run, it's one of the many features of the Genesis I like and use. Had I engineered the ignition, I would have given some thought to designing it in such a way that a brief tap of the Start button would kill the engine and take you to the accessory position, while holding the Start button down for a full second would shut everything down. Then again, perhaps I'm the only Genesis owner who would use such a feature.

Doesn't work for me. With no foot on the brake peddle and with the engine idling in Park, the very moment I push the Start/Stop button the steering wheel begins to retract and the seat begins to move back. Tried it twice. If I push the Start/Stop button immediately (say a half second) after the first push I can reverse the steering wheel and seat motors before they finish their cycle and wind up in the accessory position, but there is still a moment or two that the car was shut down and the radio comes back on.

If your seat and wheel don't begin to move the moment you push the Start/Stop button to shut the car down, how long does it take before the wheel and seat begins to move? If there is any delay at all, your Gen is different than mine.

you did say with the car in park, but if you leave the car in D or N you can shut the engine off and the acc will stay on.

If you want to move the shifter into park, you can click the start button again with your foot off the brake, so you still havent started the engine, but you get the acc that gives you access to the windows, etc... then step on the brake and move the shifter to park. Take your foot off the brake and press the start button again and everything shuts down.

Kindof a PIA and I agree that there should be a better way to do this... but this is the best I found.

Check out the user guide pages 5-7 & 5-8. If you read all the Warnings, one says "don't do" the other says "only in emergency", it would appear if you hold the button in for 3 seconds it accomplishes what you want. Please report back after you try it.

With the engine idling in Park I pushed the Start/Stop button in for more than 3 seconds twice, once with my foot on the brake and once without. Everything shut down as usual. I read the warnings on pages 5-7 and 5-8 about not pushing the Start//Stop button while the car is underway unless there is a reason to shut the motor down. Don't see that happening unless the accelerator sticks, but who knows what other circumstances may be lying in wait?

Darammer's suggestion in the post above yours about pushing the Start/Stop button while the tranny is still in Drive (or Neutral) does kill the engine and leave the accessories on. But you then get a prompt on the display between the tach and the speedo to shift the car into Park. If you try to do that, however, the gearshift is locked and won't move. To move the selector into Park it's necessary to again push the Start/Stop button again.

When all is said and done, it appears the easiest thing to do is to simply shut the car down, then push the Start/Stop button again without the foot on the brake to get to the accessory position. I can live with that. But I assumed there was a simple way to go from idling in Park directly to the accessories on mode like you can with most vehicles that use a mechanical key.
