Hi All,
Picked up my Genny mid December and finally got a chance to take a quick shot, see below.
I'm coming from a long history of ///M cars, last from an F10 ///M5 and an F80 ///M3. Can post pix too if you are interested. The F80 was my track car and you can guess that I was generally a very enthusiastic driver. I ended up having a very bad accident (myself only in a safe driving environment). That was a sobering incident and led me to sell both Ms and get the Genny. The aim was: a good car that cuts my automobile cost by 75% doesn't make me think about it every second of the day (like before) and that makes me drive extremely conservative. I shopped around quite a bit and the Genny is the absolute perfect fit. The people at Rick Case Hyundai (Leroy and Tony) treated me 1st class, a very pleasant experience.
I think the Genesis is a phenomenal car, certainly in terms of bang for the buck. As you all know, a similarly spec'd 5 series or E class would be almost twice as much. I am impressed with the overall build quality and the driveability. It is very balanced and despite its high weight feels agile and nimble.
The understeer is a tad worse in the front heavier 5.0 but I took it over the 3.8 as I really feel the car is designed for the V8. The overall drive quality is just so much better. Since 0-60 times etc don't interest me from where I am coming from, I only refer to the overall luxury feel of the two engines.
In parking lot and cruising mode, the V8 is just utterly cultured and sophisticated. Once you drive it hard, it feels overwhelmed and even the sound is not effortless but quite rasped. Other than the usual pet peeves (mildew smell from AC on startup, no back heated seats and steering wheel in the Ultimate package, no possibility to permanently store eco or sport mode etc) there is really nothing that I could complain about.
The one thing that sticks out, though, is the not adequate and really not luxury sound of the windshield wipers.
As you can see, I have it de-badged (did the same on my previous cars, I just like it clean) and it was funny to see how two guys at Mizner today spent almost five minutes to check out the car, despite the fact that it was parked between a Bentley and a 7 series.
Thanks for reading and thanks for having me. I am glad that I found a new community of enthusiasts.
Best,
H
