  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The clear plastic plate on the font bumper of my Genesis is cracked. Dealer said probably from a rock while driving.
Has anyone else seen this issue?
I have less than 5,000 miles and they want me to pay $360 to replace the part.

Yes. many times. Once I was on my way home from the dealership after buying a new car and a rock flew up from a truck tire and took a chunk of paint out of the hood of my new car.

Same thing as me getting a nail in the sidewall of a tire at under 2,000 miles. I paid, just like you will. It's called road damage.

Clear plastic plate ???? not sure what part that might be.

Are you talking about the license plate cover ?? surely that cant cost $360

What ever it cost your ins. co. would cover under comprehensive part of your policy ( except for deductible)

Is the plate something you added? My car did not come with one.

I have a feeling he talking about the front panel above the license plate holder that vehicles equipped with the automatic cruise control feature and automatic stop. The proper names escapes me right now.

Its called the Radar Plate I believe and I can see a rock cracking it and can also see a $360 price tag. That Sucks! Is it affecting the smart cruise control ? If not I would wait for the next rock to hit it before I replaced it.

Yes, the "radar plate." Still works with no issues. I'm going to wait too. Thanks guys.

I can't stand cosmetic damage on a new car. I'd get it fix and then apply a clear bra or something to that panel.

Try your best not to follow trucks so closely on the freeway.

My wife almost seems like she does it on purpose. I cringe when she takes my car to go on the highway. I just know it's coming back with rock chips.

Follow up. It's pretty shitty that the panel can't stand up to rock damage. A plus is that $360 isn't really all that bad for replacement. I image that labor is a big chunk of that. You might be able to replace the panel yourself if you can find the part online. Are you handy with tools?

Get some carbon wrap or black wrap or even limo tint to cover it up.Will look as good if not better than new for maybe $50 installed.

Maybe it's just me but I'd bite the bullet on this one and have it replaced. Will seem like a cheap fix for peace of mind if it prevents secondary failure of the SCC, especially when in use at highway speeds.
